Last time I was there, 2002, we shot a fat Impala ewe and the Afrikaners cooked it all day long in a big smoker! Served with tons of Boer Vorst (sausage), and steak! Those Afrikaners eat more meat than anyone I ever met, ha!
Thank you sir, the Lord has definitly Blessed me with favor/opportunities to travel some/hunt while there. The Springbuk and that Black Wildebeast and Burchells Zebra, "to me" are just the Epitome of South Africa Game. "A Must" kind thing, lol. The "Texas Slam" is a nice and "used to be" very...
Last 250 I worked with in my 35 Whelen Improved was the Nosler 250 PT. I used R15 "but" a friend suggested I use a magnum Primer. It made a huge diffference. That rifle also had a long throat. AA2015 works very good also with the 250.
I decided to have the throat lengthened so the 225 NF base is at the base of the case neck and seated .050 off the Lands, should give me a tad more capacity. I will drop the rifle and some dummy rounds off at my Smiths first of the week.
Thank you sir! And yes, I am backing off my 73gr load with the 210! ha No use gambling with a worst case scenario. At best, its too hard on expensive brass. God bless!
I also decided to pull the loaded NFs, it would just be a waste of expensice components at this point. I may just sell them, anyone want dibs?
$75 shipped!
Thanks Doc! I guess my tack driving 210 TTSX load over 73gr of R17 is "too hot" ha. I thank for running the data, but I meant I need it for the "Barnes 225 TTSX". I may as well try it too....:)
Thank you sir! I sat down to load some last night and found my Mod 700 Classic has a shorter throat than I thought. The NFs bore size Ogive is very near the tip of this semi spitzer. When I measured the C.O.A.L. with the bullet touching the Lands I got 3.20"! So, when seated to 3.160" it put...
North Fork list 70gr with H4350 as Max for thier .338 225 Semi spitzer for 2800+. I want to use H4350 too, but would like to find some Data for 64K pressures, just for grins. I know NF are kind of "tacky" and tend to creat more pressure quickly do I understand the premise ( Hawks are same way)...
Great story and great buck! Mod 700 rifles have been my Lifetime Favorite too! A long time ago, back in SE Texas, I also went to the 165 on the 30-06, I felt it ruined less meat than the 150 corlokt. Long before I read it in gun magazines, I accidently "discovered" that 58hr Of IMR 4350/any 165...
I loaded the Speer 100 BTSP in my first Roberts ( Mod 500 Classic). I was able to seat them out alot farther. any reason you cannot seat them farther out? A LEE Factory Crimp Die is your friend, but even then, you want that ogive farther out. Good luck to you sir.
I wanted the Mod 700 Classic 35 Whelen but with the chamber reamed out to the Ackley. I was heavily influenced by Gary Sittons writings about the Ackley (he wanted to shoot a 35 caliber, 250gr at 2600fps gtom a 20" barrel.) and I liked the big Barnes X bullets. Since I was using Max load data...
Blkram...I see no real "need" to tell/ask my little Bride about any new rifle " I want, lol
JD...I like the 280AI, but never had one in the right weight, barrel and ran out of time to play with it more when it was a widlcat. I just stepped up to the 7mags, ha. However...the right 280AI is wicked. :)
