I tried the 270 gr ELD X with Retumbo in my 338 RUM. It shot well but it was very destructive on crop damage deer. Exit wounds through the slats were fist size holes. I came to the conclusion that they were too soft for game. I haven't used the 285 gr ELD M.

Don't overlook the Nosler M21 in 280 AI.

As Scotty mentioned, unless you are shooting 180's, a 9t is more than adequate.

I have a Weatherby Accumark Limited in 6.5 Wby RPM, 24" 8t barrel. Currently using a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36mm while waiting for a VX-5HD Gen2 3-15x44mm to arrive.
Ram Shot Grand and Retumbo both shoot well with 140 gr AB, SB and Sierra Game King. The Barnes 127 gr LRX shot very well with Retumbo...
Welcome to the forum.
The 35 Whelen is indeed a hammer on game.
I've had my 700 Classis since 1988 and it has accounted for many WT bucks and a black bear.

Nothing wrong with the 35 Whelen as an all around rifle for North America.
I do have both, a Remington 700 Classic 35 Whelen and a Nosler M21 375 H&H Mag. Both hit hard.

Welcome to the forum. The 35 Whelen is a great round and there are several fellas here that have them. Good luck with your search for a 7600 in 35 Whelen.

Congratulations Mark! That's an awesome truck.
Post some pictures when you get her home.
I'm thinking of getting a new truck next year, leaning towards the AT4 Duramax.

Dan,
The 6.5 WSM was a pretty popular wildcat. The 6.5 PRC seems to be a commercial equivalent to the 6.5 WSM. Both are pretty impressive.
I recently bought a Weatherby Accumark Limited in 6.5 RPM. It's a step up in performance but requires a long action and a standard.473" bolt face.

What barrel twist do you have?
I had a M700 VLS in 22-250 with a 14t. I shot 60 gr PT just fine but the bullet profile changed and the new style OT wouldn't stabilize.
I went to the 64 gr BSB bullet and they shot well.
