The Ruger belonged to a shooting buddy. That thing shot great. Reliable and accurate. As I recall it was the all steel version, but... it was a few years back.
I like the way the Commander sits in the hand, but prefer the all-steel 5" 1911 for shooting. Also have a 3.5" Colt Officer's Model...
Ya... It's that time of life when I should be taking a look at which rifles my sons might want and use, then my own favorites until I'm too old to hunt. Sell the rest, maybe to fund one last really great hunt... :)
Am addicted to the 260 grain Nosler Accubond for my 375 H&H. Shot three black bear with it some years ago, from 15' to 300 yards. Excellent performance at those very different ranges. Excellent accuracy as well. There are less expensive bullets that will of course do just fine.
One thing I...
Couldn't resist this 1960 vintage S&W K14 with the 6" barrel. It feels great in hand and has a superb double-action trigger pull. Brought it home, adjusted my dies first for full wadcutters, and recently for some cast semi wadcutters. It is a joy to shoot!
I've got the 148 grain HBWC...
8mm Enthusiast - we got here in late summer.. The heat and humidity are formidable. Snakes yes. Chiggers yes. Ticks, thankfully I don't know. Summer months are awfully hot and humid. Oklahoma is the fourth highest state for snake bites... I'm not figuring on hunting much in summer.

Thank you all for thinking of us. 2025 was a very difficult year for us emotionally. My wife and I had careers there. Friends. We raised our sons there. Washington left us. It went crazy full-tilt lefty. We couldn't be part of that. I'd been pushing to leave for about ten years, finally after...
It's been an interesting year. In February I took a mule deer doe with the 6.5 Creedmoor in Washington.
Then after 31 years in Washington we pulled up stakes and moved to Oklahoma! Good grief. I could write something lengthy about why we left Washington, but frankly, Washington left us and we...
Without insulting anyone - like you did with your "you have bigger problems" comment - this was an extremely easy thing to pull off.
It was public knowledge that Charlie Kirk was speaking there. Location and time were known.
Charlie only used close-in security, like most people outside of...
Isn't that a fair bit faster than normal 8mm Rem Mag / 220 gr velocity?
I have zip experience with the 8mm Rem Mag, just liked the idea of the cartridge long ago, but never bought one. Knew that Sierra made a GameKing for it. Have had good results from GameKings from other cartridges in the...
We're hurting with you Fotis. Charlie Kirk was much loved.
This has been a really rough week. We got the videos of young Iryna Zarutska getting brutally murdered. Then Charlie Kirk is assassinated. Now it's 9/11.
Probably time for some buddy checks - make sure folks are doing okay. Perhaps...
I've got some round nose and "semi-spitzer" bullets that are sort-of round nose... Ought to do some hunting with them, it's been a long time!
Regards, Guy
If desired, the die companies will likely make a seating stem for the specific bullet you want to use.
With some handgun cartridges it's not unusual for the die maker to include two seating stems, one for hollow point/soft point bullets and another for wadcutters or semi-wadcutters.
Seating...
