Can bullet weight alone make a big difference in precision, or powder?

Those particular projectiles are probably the same diameter , or a hair larger, as your inner bore dimensions then. Have you ever slugged your barrel and measured the slug? I normally do with every rifle because I shoot Cast through them. I also measure my jacketed projectiles. Undersized Cup...

    This leupy is no good!

Give it time it’ll do the magical “Leupold leap” as they all do. I have many leupolds that won’t adjust after adjusting three or four times and not moving like above . Then after so many tries i finally get it to adjust and zero it in. Then the next time out it’s so far off from zero. It...

OK Nosler what is this about?????

A 2024 Zippedo (aka solid base) brought back to life!! I could only wish they re-introducing the partition golds again. I hope it’s a new innovative bullet design introduction instead of another oddball Nosler cartridge That’ll be by the wayside in a year or two.

Can bullet weight alone make a big difference in precision, or powder?

Solid copper bullets won’t “expand” to fill the bore when you shoot it like a cup and core. Bonded bullets are just as bad imo for not expanding to fill out the “bore”. When fired imo. Have you ever slugged your barrel to measure the inside of it and that E tip? I’ve had some Barnes XLCs that...

    6.5 Grendel cheap ammo

Yep, I still have about a dozen boxes of 762x39, 40 count that I got for two bucks a box on close out from Walmart when they said they weren’t selling so called assault ammo anymore.

    300 RUM Brains Trust

That brass is worth probably equivalent to a box of ammo! I wish somebody would be at the range and shooting 300 and 375 rum…and doesn’t reload! I got lucky a little over a week ago and somebody didn’t pick up their 10 mm brass.

.358” projectiles out of spec is quite common I’ve been finding out lately

Well, I just got off the phone with Barnes. After about a five minute conversation of trying to be told how to load my ammo properly and saying that they need to jump super far I explained that they’re still too small and diameter versus slugged barrel. Then I was told that my caliper wasn’t...

    300 RUM Brains Trust

lol… I wish they were that cheap in reality but you get my point. Most people don’t even keep their 30-06 , or parent cases anymore. I find it at the range all the time. I was there last week and I had a guy give me all his military 30-06 brass when he got done shooting. I figured that’ll be...

    300 RUM Brains Trust

Yeah back in the day I never annealed when this brass was purchased. Now I normally every 4 to 5 firings. I probably should’ve annealed my 35 Whelen brass this time around, but it’s loaded and ready to go. That stuff said least cheap even though it’s original Remington 35 Whelen brass I can...

Favorite bullets and powders for the 358 Win? Crimp?

I Powder coating them and Tumbled the coating on in a Tupperware container. I now mainly use clear powder coating for all my rifle rounds because it coats as smooth as glass. Figure it’s “mentally” more “aerodynamic” with the smooth clear finish. Eventually, I’ll try and get them to feed in my...

    Poor Winchester brass quality control.

I’ve always had extremely good luck with their brass, but I’ve gotten a lot of the old bags as stated above. The stuff I won’t buy is federal. Too many cracked cases after once fired I’ve seen since I started getting into reloading 25 years ago. I remember buying one bag of 223 during the...

Favorite bullets and powders for the 358 Win? Crimp?

I tell you to try the Speer 180 grain hot core. I’ve shot a few deer with them out of my 35 Rem. I also just loaded some at Winchester velocities out of my Whelen to use this year. Pretty tough bullet. I crimp my 336, 35 Remlever gun using a lee factory crimp dye. Also use my own casted 200...

    Poor Winchester brass quality control.

It doesn’t shock me that it’s taking so long. I sent them a 1000 count brick of browning re branded 1260 fps 33 grain hollow points a couple months ago and haven’t heard back yet other than they said eventually they’ll send me a check for a refund. I opened one of the 500 count boxes in the...

    300 RUM Brains Trust

I remember the first time I got drawn for black bear. Out of 16 black bear trees that year and shot I only saw two drop stone cold dead… and that’s both with 300 rum. One with a 180 grain ballistic tip and mine with a 180 Scirrocco. They are wicked calibers with the right projectile. I remember...

    300 RUM Brains Trust

Wish I would’ve grabbed the 338 at the time. It would fit between the 300 and the 375 in my cabinet…lol

    55 grain BT in 8 Twist .243

I have loaded my BCA upper with 1/8 twist with them. Best groups came from H4895 and varget around 42.2 grain range if I remember with both powders. Was getting around .3”’s with both at best at 100 yards. Found an old target. My one and nine twist 22 inch heavy barrel BCA upper shoots just...

    300 RUM Brains Trust

If you go with a pencil barrel version like the factory 700s just be aware it’s pretty common to print two in the same hole and then the third one is normally a flyer most of the time because the barrel heats so quickly. I’ve even thrown mine in an HS precision stock and had it cryogenically...

.308 180 grain partition gold group testing out of my 300 RUM

I still haven’t bought a box and a half of mine. Hoping to find a few more boxes that’ll probably last me a lifetime since I won’t target practice with them and just load them for hunting and zero the gun into them.

    Reloading Logs

I just use a spiral notebook like you do and then keep it in a binder. I normally cut out my best groups like report cards and glue on to a page and write down all my load data. Been doing it for over 25 years and the binder is still going strong along with the notebook but it’s getting pretty full.

Grafs and Sons 35 Whelen brass sale $59.99 for 100 pcs.

I got lucky and bought a bag of 100 brand new Remington’s from a member for about 60 bucks. A few years back still have a few new in the bag. I figured if I couldn’t find them, I was just gonna run some 30 odd six brass or some of the apparent cases through my 35 Rem FL sizing die. Normally...
