Weatherby.
I would have voted for Remington, but that company is on its 3rd recent life, and we have yet to determine if they're going to be any good.
Unfortunately it really depends on when the rifle was made.
26 inch factory barrels for all of these.
I have a 24 inch custom which has shot 160AB factory loads at 3020fps. However, they no longer make those loads so my couple of boxes are hoarded for that rifle.
There was a guy on LRH looking for 270 WbyMag cases, should you want to sell.
7mm Wby cases are not difficult to find. As I detest the idea of reloading one round in another so close in size, if it were me I'd swap them.
Then again, I probably have, um, too many 7mm Wby cases.
The slow load is...
I still have my Shooting Chrony Beta Master with all the accessories in case I ever need it, but sold my Magnetospeed.
FYI, I use the iphone app exclusively to arm and trigger the LR.
Labradar, external battery pack, JLK external trigger with magnetic mount.
I also purchased a "sight" that mounts via the top screw of the Labradar to use instead of the tiny notch in the top of the unit.
You can use the tabletop base or a tripod to hold the Labradar. Either works, but your...
Short answer, no.
SAAMI specifications call for the freebore. As a SAAMI-compliant manufacturer Winchester would have included it just as Remington does in its Weatherby chamberings.
Or, his Chrony is way off.
That's possible too.
My 270 gets 3300fps using the 117 Hammer Hunter with MRP. I have a hard time believing his speeds are accurate.
If they ARE accurate, that bolt must require a 2# hammer to open it.
The Weathermark is a "base" Weatherby, if the term even exists anymore.
I suspect - based on past models - that the B&C stock on it might have aluminum only around the action screws, and not the full length aluminum. Their website doesn't say. Barrels are #1 or #2 contour unless you have a...
My first rifle at age 12 was a Remington 7400 in 30-06; I thought that the 270 wasn't big enough. At that age I wasn't thinking about recoil.
As time went on one of my first bolt action rifles was a Vanguard in 270 Win. As I have played around with everything from 223s to 340 Wby over the years...
I've wanted them to make them in wall sections so that I could assemble on site.
So far none of the local guys located in the Muskegon/Fremont/west MI area is interested.
I note that his website states he will build them in sections - that's great!
I own several 270 Winchesters, and once had a 270 WSM.
No hate for the 270 Win, that's for sure. One of mine goes out in the field every year. I disliked the rifle the 270 WSM was in, so sent that one along.
#1 - The 6.8 Western also needs a longer-than-traditional magazine to fit the longer...
Mossberg, Alterra, Savage, Gunwerks, Seekins, Ruger, Proof Research, BotW, Boring, Altus, GA Precision as well with more to come.
Remington will have 7mm PRC available late this year.
Others are in the pipeline.
Given the option now, I'd do a 7mm PRC before a 6.8 Western. In fact, the 7mm PRC will kill the 6.8 Western.
You will see FAR more companies making ammo and rifles in this chambering. This is already true, and the 6.8 has been out a couple of years while the 7mm PRC for only a couple of months...
Don't be afraid to look at past auction sales from any service that you use. You might see that some services do much better than others.
Also, pay attention to the percentage that they take from the sale, as well as other fees.
So most of that weight savings has nothing to do with long vs short action then, which is what your post inferred.
If you're debating short action vs long, at least compare them comparably equipped.
I'd wonder how you can lose 1-1.5# from a short action to a long action.
Most manufacturers put the weight difference at 0.2 pounds or less.
The 7 PRC is an attractive cartridge IF you don't already have a 7mm magnum of some flavor, which is your position.
My daughter has one (pink camo), and thankfully she's a good shot and has done well with it.
A friend had me tune his Axis in 30-06 for an elk hunt this past season. I tried the M-Carbo kit, which helped only nominally. I just ordered the Timney, installed it and gave the owner the bill.
I also...
