    Tubb’s FinalFinish

I figured that <$100 for the bullets, powder and primers vs >$1000 for a new barrel (with installation, Cerakoting, etc etc) it was worth the risk. It worked well enough that I've considered it for another rifle. The one I used it on will never be a high volume shooter, so if I get a couple of...

    Tubb’s FinalFinish

I used it earlier this year on a used Mark in 300 Weatherby. I got it to shoot "OK" but the barrel looked horrible on borescope (pits in the stainless), and the throat was even worse. I used all 10 of each grit as this was a last-ditch effort else a rebarrel. The rifle went from shooting a 3...

    300 Weatherby Pet Loads

As Fotis notes, 7828SSC with a 180 grain bullet is magic in the 300 Weatherby if you can find some of that. Load up 81/81.5/82/82.5, 3-5 cartridges of each. Shoot them, and one will be your load. So far it works for every 300 Weatherby I've had come through.

    Heavier 7mm bullet options

Aaron Davidson has done a few podcasts recently on this. His take on Bergers is that the 195 is too heavy, and the 168 is about perfect for the 7mm cartridge. Here's one to listen to...

    what credit card ?

I have my credit cards set to text me whenever they have a charge on them. They also text if there is a purchase they consider questionable. It works well.

    Blackhorn 209 Powder

Both of these are very true. BH209 is much nicer to use than the traditional black powder, but they may price themselves out of the market. You'll have to find it at a local store to consider using it.

    Blackhorn 209 Powder

It's difficult to justify using a muzzleloader at $170/pound for the powder. Approximately $1.70 per shot just for the powder, plus the bullet, sabot, etc. I realize that's still cheap compared to the overall price of almost any hunt, but when MI now allows "any legal weapon" in most areas...

    Had to get it!!

Short barrels only in the Backcountry with the 338 RPM, which is what holds me back. I'm not an 18" barrel kind of guy with a bolt-action rifle. Their intent was to make it short for a suppressor.

    Had to get it!!

I've thought hard about one in the Backcountry 2.0 Ti, but with a 338-06 ULW already in the collection I'm waiting. I do wish the Backcountry came with a slightly longer barrel in the 338 RPM. Please let us know how it shoots!

    Savage axis11 7-08

The Axis II at least comes with the Accutrigger. I would never buy a first-generation Axis, as the two that I've worked on had horrible triggers. Lightweight and almost flimsy stock. Watch how they do or to not contact the barrel. There are ways to stiffen them, but then they weigh more if...

    Pondering My .338 Win Mag

You might use Flitz gun wax or similar on the blued action, and as others note be sure to keep it as dry as able. You can always have it Cerakoted in the future if it were to rust, and in the meantime enjoy it as-is.

    The Obsolete .244 Remington

I inherited a 6mm Remington from a patient and had it restored. Great rifle, and what the 244 should have been. I have some 244 brass if anyone is in need.

160 gr. partition in 270 Win.

I reached out to Powder Valley today, and they confirmed that Norma Powders were discontinued in the US two years ago. That really stinks, as I have 3 rifles that shoot well with MRP and very little of it left. Thankfully I have some ammo loaded for each, so I have some time to find new loads.

    Michigan 2022 Rifle Deer Season

Unfortunately, it's usually true. It's been 3 years since we saw any deer during deer season on Dad's land. This year's 4 a week ago is a recent record. The deer I've shot were on other friends' land.

    300 WSM Quality Issues

What does the old box look like vs new? What are the different neck measurements? I will be selling my 300WSM rifles, so will have Nosler 180 AB ammo available.

    Walker Game ear or similar?

Fotis, Do your hearing aids block loud noises? My Dad's will block above 80 dB, so they work as hearing protection in the field. He can wear them hunting or shooting, though will usually put muffs on when at the range. He also uses Sport Ears, which will amplify and block. From what I can find...

    Michigan 2022 Rifle Deer Season

OK, I was shocked. Wednesday morning (second day) I saw a buck, then a doe and fawn, then another doe. Unfortunately each was crossing the two-track I look down, and saw each for about 2.5 seconds as they trotted by. Lots of tracks in the fresh snow on Wednesday morning as well. It's the most...
