    Acceptable accuracy

At the range, in ‘controlled conditions’, definitely inside 1”@100yds minimum standard. In the field on live quarry ... anything that knocks the beast over with a clean kill from the wet, shitty, most uncomfortable shooting position I almost always find myself in when hunting. (But I love it...

    Gone and done it again!

Ha LRH, when your great great grandfather left Ireland, no such hoops to jump through to own & posess a firearm existed. Politicians as the old saying goes are (and media hype) the enemy of firearms. As for hunting in the UK, well, ten minutes drive from my home there are red stags/deer that I...

    Chronograph Tips

I use an opaque plastic box resting on the rods over my chrony, the ends cut away so the bullet can pass through. Always seems to work very well when sunny and keeps it all dry should it rain. It’s also rather more wind resistant, but does have a limit. You can also just mod an opaque plastic...

    Gone and done it again!

Checking at the range yesterday, R17 is, but not R26. Anyway, the stutzen shows good promise. Shoots well with Norma 120gn Nosler factory & not so bad with my 140gn SST reloads. Not great, but not bad. All would easily take a red stag. But, there is a ‘set trigger’ issue I need to sort out. Dry...

    Gone and done it again!

Thanks Mike & Scotty. Currently some IMR & Alliant powders are still available and I think R26 is EU compatible. Not sure about this though. I’ll check it out as many USA manufactured propellants are no longer being shipped to Europe. All due to some heath & safety issue dreamed up by the EU...

    Cartridge Concentricity

Ha ha....law of diminishing returns springs to mind  Think of it more or less as an engineering project ... sort of moving toward a doctorate without the hat & gown (y) So many angles and advice to find and chase. But 1/2” @ 100yds is a perfectly good hunting round. And remember even...

    Gone and done it again!

Definitely looking forward to using it E .. friends are using them on the reds now for the last two seasons & I'm just catching up. Two have Sako Finnlite's and one has a Lakelander. Another has 6.5x68 vom hoffe and another has 6.5x47Lapua. They certainly are dropping the stags cleanly. Not...

    Gone and done it again!

OK, so this is it scoped up, fully sorted, Zeiss 8x56 off my K95 and just requires zeroing tomorrow morning .. then, ready to go. & just for fun, a couple of pics of my K95 now glassed up with the S&B 8x56

You've got "ring around the brass!"

Sounds exactly what SjB said..ring mark at the bottom of the case body above the rim where the cartridge case doesn’t get fully sized inside a full length sizing die. Absolutely normal. Getting your charge and bullet seating tuned in correctly will reduce your groups but its all down to case...

    Gone and done it again!

Ha .. we’ll see later this year, but I’m hoping so Scotty. I hope I’ll be able to take a roebuck in Scotland before then though, but stags are something else again and I relish the forthcoming season, especially the rut. I’d love to take another big boy with it! Thanks to all you guys for your...

    Gone and done it again!

On Saturday it’s getting a airing at the range to zero it. First with some 120gn Nosler BT bullets, then when done, some testing with 140gn SST’s & IMR4350. I’m kinda hoping it performs well. I’ll stick another pic on with it scoped & ready for action on 1st April for bucks in Scotland (y) (y)

    Gone and done it again!

Well here it is, Steyr Mannlicher Classic 6.5x55 SE, although it’s now scoped. I put the Zeiss 8x56 (1” tube) from my K95 onto this Stutzen. The Blaser K95 now has a Schmidt & Bender 8x56 (30mm tube) on it.

What powder measure do you use?

I use a couple of RCBS Uniflows I’ve had for many years, together with 5-0-5 beam scales & Redding trickler. Works for me.

    Odd 25-06, Retumbo results

I have never tried Retumbo or the bullet you're testing, but I have used consistently over the years IMR4831 and the 110gn Accubond bullet. I have the bullet seated at .040" from the lands and measuring with a comparator 2.870" is my cartridge length. I don't know the bullet you're testing, but...

300 WM with 165 gr Accubonds

Works for me too, but I enjoy working up the loads for other rifles I buy, & when they’re sorted, they stay that way.

Your vote....coolest European cartridge and rifle.

There is a movie ‘The Ghost & the darkness’ .. 1997 with Val Kilmer & Michael Douglas about the maneaters of Tsavo .. been there many times man & boy many hunters back then used .303 with fmj bullets to shoot dangerous game. I have no knowledge of the .30-06 and its use in Africa in the early...

And so it did Guy, it remains a very popular cartridge over here. But, you could have used the word ‘help’ sort things out on this side of the water  we did do our bit before you got here and freely admit, without US aid (y) our forebears would have endured a lengthier as well as...

Sounds like far toooo much gun for me Scotty, I like the gentler touch  Several pieces of good English stuff on this link though: https://www.guntrader.uk/Guns-For-Sale/ ... -6e40-812e

Your vote....coolest European cartridge and rifle.

Unfortuately not. It’s highly likely/virtually certain the original barrel will be destroyed during removal. A bit of a bummer really as that was my initial hope. P.M. sent Guy.

Thanks DrMike, nice to have it appreciated. Currently, the original barrel is shot out and though all the provenance is there, before it can be used once more on live quarry, it will be rebarreled. The original MSch M1903 6.5x54 chambering will be preserved. A Krieger barrel is due to arrive at...
