    Stretching it to 725

Primer swaps definitely make a difference. I usually test at least 2 primers with every rifle/load combo and they always show a preference for 1 over the other in accuracy, ES, or both.

75 gr ELD-M, .223 Rem, Mule deer buck

Last I knew, the 3rd owner of that rifle has killed a few elk and bears with it and absolutely loves it, and will never sell it. Still shooting the 300g SMKs with 92g H1K. It was a hammer indeed, on both ends 🤣

75 gr ELD-M, .223 Rem, Mule deer buck

The only other target bullet I've used with great success was the big 338" 300g SMK from the 338 EDGE at 2850fps. It smacked elk like you wouldn't believe and left baseball size exits out to 900 yards. But I much prefer my little 7mm Mags these days with 180s, they're just a tad easier to shoot.

75 gr ELD-M, .223 Rem, Mule deer buck

It's kinda funny, you wouldn't imagine all the flack I get for using them for LR big game hunting. Really only by people who don't know any better or different though so it doesnt bother me any...They certainly have their place for hunting if you know their limitations and do your job as a...

Finding the load in a troubling rifle...

Yes, you would need to redo load development since the harmonics changed. I'd echo exactly what TD284 stated.

    223 ladder testing results

I also think I'm going to try and get some N540 and use that with the Lapua cases. Seems the next most logical choice based on availability and speeds based on my research. Keep ya guys posted! I'm loving this little 223. So much fun and cheap to shoot. Can't wait to start stretching it out to...

    7mm-378 Wby?

I don't believe Norma makes 240 brass anymore. That was one of the main reasons I rebarreled my 240 to a 6 Creed. Brass was just non existent for the last 3 years and I wasn't about to buy factory weatherby ammo just for the brass.

I would say you're pright, IMR4895 also isn't to bad with the 75s either since it has little vertical also. Those 3 definitely show the most promise with the 75s. Which is OK because I'm fairly certain Benchmark is going to kill it with the 52 ELDMs/53 VMAXs. I have 4# of IMR4895, 1# of H4895...

    7mm-378 Wby?

Way too overbore for me. I absolutely love all things 7mm mag, but I wouldn't even bother with it honestly. They can be quite finicky to load for and get consistent accuracy and barrel life on something like that is not going to be good at all. 7 RUM I had in a Sendero was super picky and...

Nosler 7mm PRC 175 gr long range

"If" they decide to shoot in your rifle, I'd have no worries from them on elk. They should be a hammer 🔨

    223 ladder testing results

Here are all the ladders for review. 8 total, with 4 powders (IMR4895/H4895/Benchmark/IMR8208XBR) and 2 bullets (75/80 ELDMs) Shot at 300 yards. Rifle looks like it definitely prefers the 75s, so I'm just going to concentrate on the 75s from here on out and sell or trade the 80s for more 75s. I...

    Reloading Logs

I have the little spiral notebooks for each of my centerfires. I have the build specs of the rifle, virgin/fired case specs, and bullet ogive/land specs on the first couple pages. Then I keep track of how many rounds fired, range, MOA/Wind correction, date, temp, wind speed, and any other notes...

Love it! Great shooting on a little speed goat!!! And from a pistol none the less, amazing what you do with those Ernie.

75 gr ELD-M, .223 Rem, Mule deer buck

I've used the AMAX/ELDM the last 15 years for all my big game hunting. However, my shots are typically 300+ where the impact velocities are lower, and that's where they start to shine. They are a highly frangible bullet, but no more so than the beloved Berger VLDs. Up close you definitely want...

    Interview with Adam Weatherby

Leaning more towards the 6.5-300 just for the simple fact it would see elk, and I'm not a huge fan of 25 cal for elk, nor really even 6.5s for that matter. However I do realize the 6.5 is by far the better choice over the 257 because of the heavier bullets and the extra horsepower. If elk wasnt...

    222 Rem Thoughts

If you ever make it over to Hermiston, just let me know! I've heard IMR4198 is kind of a unicorn powder these days, but I honestly don't have any other rifle/use for it. It was always strictly for my triple deuce. And since I just rebarreled that rifle to a long range 223, IMR4198 really serves...

    Interview with Adam Weatherby

Great interview. I love the part where Adam says "Well I don't hunt with the 6.5 Creed" 🤣 But on a more serious note, this has got me looking into another Weatherby, more than likely another Vanguard, but I'm thinking 257 WBY or 6.5-300 WBY with a 4-14x Leupold for a lighter packing rifle for...

I've got 4# of IMR4198 you can have if you can figure out a way to get it from Oregon 🤣
