Any idea why that is? My only guess at this wee hour of the morning would be freebore. The faster the projectile overcomes that jump, the better to my thinking.
From my limited time with 223s so far... sort em. LC is pretty good brass and I sort by date and load them single stage for my tiny varmint rounds. My spray & pray ammo will be loaded on a progressive but I still have them sorted (mild OCD perhaps?). As noted in another post, these are small...
And by the way, thank you to everyone for chiming in on this one. It has been putting my mind to ease. Like I said, I wasn't seeing any red flags from my spent rounds, but thinking about a Wannabee vs a Mark V planted a seed of doubt.
Charlie... that data sheet is probably the "ad" I was referring to in my original post.... I seem to remember you sending me a pdf of it a year or two ago when you hooked me on 7828 (and thank you for that, by the way!).
Scotty... Believe it or not... I do buy manuals every once in a while LOL...
I hear ya Mike as far as your point on having worked up safely, but I started at 80gr... just a grain and a half shy of many of the current published maximums. Also, as far as old data goes, the Lee manual I utilized was one that my dad had on his shelf. It was the same one that was available on...
Pretty much as the title suggests, I'm wondering if Wannabee Vanguards have the same freebore as an actual Mark V Weatherby. I only ask as I used a load out of the previous edition of Modern Reloading to load for my Weatherby Vanguard Sporter in 300 Wby. I forget exactly what the max load was...
Dewey focused on caliber and I realized that was the point of the thread, not just chambering. With that, I guess I'm really up the creek. There are several guns in the safe in my least favorite caliber.... .30. The only duplicate is a set of Marlin 336s that were given to me, one left to me...
Someone mentioned shotguns. Although this a rifle thread, it did make me think about my shotguns and handguns. There can easily be duplicates in those arenas as they tend to be much more purpose driven. I currently have roughly a dozen shotguns... 1 10ga, 1 410, and the rest are 12s and 20s...
Almost all of my 40 reloads have been 155, 180 and 185... no 150s or 165s, so I can't help you out on that front.
If I get a chance in the next day or two, I'll try to get a side by side picture of some 40 barrels to show the chambers. I can't speak for other manufacturers of Glock barrels, but...
Because.
I have had a few duplicates... usually it was just because of finding a deal to good to pass on. I have two 336 30-30s... exactly the same gun... both from family members. I also have several 22s... you can never have too many of those!
I'd expect nothing less! Main point was it tends to take me several pieces of cloth or patch to get all the compound out... kinda until it pass the white glove test.... but you may have already surmised as much!
You mentioned the Axis/Edge. I'm actually glad you're doing this comparison. In the entry level market, I feel the Marlin is where it's at. If they can still be found, the Stevens 200 is a great alternative, but they do tend to get customized being a Savage. But as you pointed out, kinda goes...
I'm a huge fan of Ruger, but the Americans that I've handled in stores have left me feeling a little disappointed. If it came down to it, I'd go with the Marlin. I'm looking forward to seeing the results you come up with I want to see the Marlin take it, but secretly I hope the Ruger holds it own.
Dub's got you pretty well set. About the only thing I do different is the lapping. A family friend with a machine shop in his garage made me a 1" lapping bar a few years back. I typically utilize valve grinding compound (available cheaply at most auto parts stores) in place of the 1k grit emery...
It sounds a lot like the 95 I have below. It'll want a trigger. The Winchester style safety is one of the top things I'd do for a mauser that's destined to receive a scope. I bought mine the way it sits today. Win style safety, original stepped barrel (which I wish were contoured as it sets in a...
LOL! I have no idea how you stumbled onto that one! When I had the revolver I'd scour gunbroker listings... sifting through every add that'd come up, usually for a Colt 44 cal black powder. When I'd add brass to the search, I'd usually come up empty. When I did find brass, it was more than I'd...
Not the 44-40 Charlie. The 44 colt like Fotis has pictured. I had gotten a revolver on trade with 3 or 4 boxes of Black Hills ammo & brass... I thought also dies, but now that think about it.... I never did have dies as I was on the lookout for 44Russian dies. They were supposed to be able to be...
