As capable and popular a cartridge as the 28 Nosler is, I feel that I have my 7mm bases covered with the 7mm-08, 280, 7mm PRC and 7MM STW.
They are all working well, and the 280 and 7MM STW have put a lot of game in the freezer and on the table for me and my family.
The 28 Nosler may just be...
Finally found some of Federal's 7MM PRC 155 gr Terminal Ascent ammo here in Canada!
It was also $20/box cheaper than the 170 gr ammo!
While weather has been warm (long standing chinook weather), it has been pretty windy of late, and time hasn't been available to get to the range on days with no...
While the AccuBond has been my favourite hunting bullet since it first came out, it would be my first choice, with the 225 gr SGK second. My recommendation is to use the one that is the most accurate in your rifle.
As for hunting over, your shot will most likely be close, so you probably do not...
I am going to have to look closer at Re-26 for the 270 WSM with the 140 gr AB, 140 gr Trophy Bonded Tip and 136 gr Terminal Ascent bullets I have on hand, as I was just able to get another 5 lbs of this powder at a decent price.
I have not handloaded for my current rifle (LH Browning X Bolt All Weather 23" barrel) in 270 WSM as yet. The factory ammo tried to date is not showing any pressure signs and producing good performance (Nosler 140 gr AccuBond at 3073 fps and producing 0.565" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. Federal...
Honestly, from the conversation of the rifle owner's intended use, the best option is Guy's suggestion of:
I'd have suggested that the guy with the new 270 buy a few different kinds of quality factory ammo and see which it shot best, then go buy a case of that.
I have shot a couple Ruger...
Guy, thanks for posting the link to this thread. I do not recall seeing this back in the day. (Always fun to revive an old thread!)
As DrMike said, I have and love my 376 Steyr! And I have taken bison (100 yards) and elk (150 yards) with it, Worked just fine with the 260 gr AccuBond. I even...
Bison meat is great!
It is a large grained meat, with its own distinctive flavour, that cannot quite be compared to anything else here in North America. It's flavour and heartiness that cannot be directly compared to beef. It must be cooked low and slow for best results, as high heat can make it...
As Hannibal used to say "I love it when a plan comes together!"
There are times when we are tempted to push just a little more to get that next level of velocity or accuracy from a load, and that can be part of the adventure in this passion. But there are times too when it worked well enough...
Interesting charts for seating depth.
Curious as to the stringing that was always discussed as vertical and horizontal stringing being barrel bedding issue and action screw torque.
Wonder at what point one is to discern it between bedding issues and seating depth?
Reminds me of the close range shots I have taken game at with my 7MM STW over the years (160 gr SGKs and ABs):
30 yards, mountain goat
30 yards, whitetail buck
35 yards, whitetail buck
80 yards whitetail buck
60 yards, mulie buck
85 yards, mulie buck
40 yards bull moose
80 yards, bull moose
80...
In talking to the technician at Federal's Custom Ammunition Shop a while ago, he indicated that Federal may not make the 7mm 170 gr TA bullet available as a component. They may only load in the ammunition. Hope this does not turn out to be true!
I am still waiting to find some of the 155 gr TA...
Hate to admit, but I haven't pulled the AI out of the safe for a while, and I still need to finalize a load in it with the 110 gr AB,
But I do have load data for both Re-26 and H-4350 to try (I have both powders in stock). Max loads in my LH Rem 700 and 24" barrel according to QuickLoad suggest...
Welcome to the forum.
My 7MM PRC rifle is the LH Fierce Carbon Rogue with 24" barrel. We'll see how she likes the Fusion Tipped.
What velocity are you getting out of your 22" barrel?
My rifle shoots the Federal 170 gr Terminal Ascent ammo into .708" 3 shot groups @ 100 yards, at 2920 fps with...
Add me to the list for a 0.257" 120-130 gr BT, AB or ABLR.
Still wishing for a 0.410 240 or 265 gr JHP for the 41 Rem Mag.
A 0.400" 200-220 gr bullet for the 10MM Auto for Marlin's new 1894 Trapper would be great too!
.416 350 gr AB's
.358 220 gr FP Partitions
.375 220 gr FP Partitions
Did you see any difference between the 115 gr BT and Partitions in your No.1?
Curious to see of the shorter Partition will perform better in my Bob than the BT.
The factory Nosler ammo with the 110 gr AB did shoot well; 0.582" 3 shot group at 100 yards at 2989 fps from the 22" Shilen 1:10 twist...
We are blessed that generation gave so much, that most take for granted today. I know that I am eternally grateful!
Despite the many challenges that we face today, most of of us are extremely lucky that we have not had to endure what they endured during the Depression and two World Wars.
You got me curious...
SAAMI's specs for the 250 Savage is 45,000 CUP, which is 50,318 psi.
QuickLoad suggests that max in a 22" barrel (sorry, I do not recall your rifle's barrel length) with the 100 gr BT, would be 35.7 gr of H380, producing 2848 fps and 1800 ft lbs of energy.
Although on...
