As JD stated - welcome to the club
They are a fantastic piece of glass. Don't forget you can take some great pictures with them as well. I have yet to purchase the mount and have done these off hand - a little tricky though.
All I know - If I lived somewhere I could hunt that many species through the year, it would equal a divorce in my house.
Mike - You live in a fantastic part of our world.
Due to bullet selection or maybe I should say limitation, I wouldn't worry about the difference between a 24 to 26 in tube - The 24in tube would make a better truck gun like said above and you'll still be able to shoot as far as you want.
Not to change subjects - but when are the Mfg's going...
Why am I always the odd guy out here ....
If the 130's were working, and your confidence level was high, I wouldn't question them out of the 270wsm for elk. It's always about the placement - if you're diligent enough to hold for the appropriate shot no issues.
With that said - I do...
What stock is on your Model 7 ?
I have a Rem 700 Varminter in 22-250 that is like my Amex card - don't leave home without it.
Remington / Winchester brass - CCI BR primers and 55gr B-kings or B-tips shoot the same for me.
I'd go into looking at it as pretty much having what your time is worth - may work, may not ?
I like to tinker so I went at it with realizing I may need to purchase a new stock.
With that said, I did my 700 VTR plastic fantastic stock. Not 100% sure what went wrong due to the barrel continues...
Owen -
Good luck on 61 - impressive area for both deer and elk. If I remember correctly ( which most cases I don't ) you might be on the bubble for drawing?
My buddy and I have a few more years, but have intentions of that area for archery elk.
Joel - Congrats on an impressive 6.5 !
Don't they have regulations about shooting stuff from one county into the other  ?
Can't wait to see the finished goods.......
You won't go wrong with a 7-08 in the safe.
Most of them appear to be very easy to load for and not finicky at all - My shoots about what ever I put down the tube under an inch.
Viht N-140 & 140gr B-tips exceptionally well......
Definately let us know how it shoots.
I've been attempting to get some of the same A-max's to shoot out of my .223 without much luck - I them switched and have been hopeful to get the 70gr VLD's to shoot.
My 22-250 however I've used a lot of IMR-4350 and 52 - 55gr bullets. Always had great results with the IMR powders, however...
Great looking rifle. I've been looking at the same stock or light tactical for mine
Let us know how it shoots w/ the 60s. Im not overly impressed w/ mine yet. Purchased some
69gr skis to try. Good luck!
My 22-250 is the one round that will never be vacant within my safe - it's the one round
that I could potentially do everything with.
M700 Varmiter BDL - early 80's flavor. Have shot tons of 52gr SMK's and now 55gr B-Tips and B-kings.
Great caliber choice you have chosen to look at -
All great sugestions above - If you're looking to purchase something off the shelf, I'd imagine the .260, .264, & 6.5sweed will be the easiest to get your hands on. Remington has done a pathetic job of keeping the .260 alive, so your only...
Yep - definately jealous ! Fine looking animals you were able to take.
Too bad about the .280, however I'm sure the 270wsm will step right in and fill the shoes.
I "HAD" to buy a 270wsm to fill the numerical gap between my .260 & .280
The 130gr AB is my bullet of choice out of the .260. Definately has to be one of the finest deer rounds available - can't speak for their performance on deer, however they work great on elk
Let us know how they end up working for you -
