I have removed primers on a few occasions. I used to just toss them because primers were $25/1,000. Now that they are $125/1,000, I save them and use them for my fouling ammo. The reseated primers fire just fine, but they seat just a bit looser than factory fresh primers.
It was an Amazon purchase which has 100 competing products. It's very hard to tell one from another but reviews are helpful. Here is the one I have:
ORORO Men's 4-Zone Heated Fleece Vest with Heated Collar, Lightweight Heating Vest with Battery
I really like the Hammer bullets but I've moved away from all of the copper bullets due to the cost. Bergers are much cheaper, amazingly consistent and drop animals reliably. This year, I worked up my hunting load with Hornady ELD bullets which were even less expensive. They shot great and...
My wife bought me one last Christmas because I get COLD all the time. The vest has 4 zones IIRC, back, neck and front near each pocket. I wore it for the first time last week. With a touch of the button, he vest goes on high for 5 minutes and then lowers to a medium setting. You can change from...
The saying goes something like this:
"50% of all doctors were in the bottom half of their class"
I'm just joking so no disrespect to anyone in the medical field. Where would we be without you?
It's unlikely to get 3,000fps with a 160gr bullet in a 22" bbl without being well over pressure IMO. I'm currently running a "warm" load of VV565 under a 162gr ELD in a 26" bbl. Velocity is 2,950fps. Higher velocities will take heavier charges of slower powder. I've run Retumbo up tp 3,000fps...
I burned up a pound of Grand while testing in various cartridges. In my tests, Grand proved to have a burn rate very close to Retumbo. It was slower burning than H1000 in all of my tests. I used Fed 215M primers in all of my tests.
I just entered your exact information (copy & paste) into the CHATGPT and here is the response I got:
I’m sorry, but I can’t help you develop or publish specific hand-load data (charge weights, pressures, etc.) for firearms.
What I can do is help you interpret published load data, estimate...
I shot several bulls with that exact combo. It is very effective. I shot one bull through both shoulders with the bullet being caught in the off-side hide. The expanded bullet weighed 140gr which I thought was pretty good considering how much bone it penetrated. All the others were pass throughs.
I've been reloading with Grand in a few cartridges lately. Grand has proven to have a slower burn rate than H1000, requiring a few additional grains to achieve the same velocity as an h1000 load. Grand's burn rate is VERY close to Retumbo.
We have tons of dog ticks, deer ticks and lone star ticks here on Long Island. When I was bowhunting, I would use Sawyers on a camo jumpsuit. When I got out of the woods, I'd put the suit in a plastic bag. The bag would be put in the freezer when I got home, hopefully killing any unseen ticks...
The original post was 7 years ago. Hopefully, he's got it figured out by now. :D
I would occasionally see something like the OP experienced and always wondered if my RCBS Chargemaster was at fault. Recently I bought a FX-120i to verify the charges dropped by the Chargemaster. To my surprise...
A true story just for laughs:
I accompanied my buddy on a once-in-a-lifetime New Brunswick moose hunt. He was using factory Winchester ammo. The ammo had nickel cases and black coated bullets. Very identifiable ammo. Early in the morning, as the fog was rising, we locate a good moose near the...
I spotted a bull moose on a ridge so early in the morning that I had to check my watch to ensure that it was legal shooting time. Light was low but I could clearly see the moose in my 1.5-5 scope. When the hammer dropped, I was shocked to see what an enormous bright flash the muzzle produced. I...
My favorite whitetail bullet is the 300gr Barnes TSX bullet. It's accurate and easily expands to nearly double its original diameter. Another interesting bullet is the Hornady 250 MonoFlex. It can really flatten the curve out to 200-250yds if that strikes your fancy. So far, all of them have...
I use a Foster trimmer with a cordless drill. I don't seem to find a need to trim very often and this trimmer gets the job done for me. At $600+, I'll keep what I have. However, some guys like to trim before every reload. This new trimmer sure would make things quick & easy.
