Exactly what Rick said, no correlation between density & pressure. It has to do w/ the burn rate of the powders used. A slower powder builds pressure slower than a medium or fast burner. Usually, loads showing 100%+ density are lower pressure loads because the powders are much slower in order to...
Since I pretty much only hunt w/ Nosler bullets, I have so many great hunting moments:
First big game animal
First African animal
First elk
Nosler has been good to me.
The only rifle I don't use Noslers in is my 404jeffery & that's only because they don't make them. Come on Nosler, step...
They are so close it's hard to choose. I would take the 06 if all my shots would be under 300yds, especially in timber (200gr bulets). The 7remmag has a slight edge going beyond 300yds w/ the right bullets. Is one significantly better than the other no. I've just never been a big 06 fan so I...
It sounds like you have a very rough bore. I routinley shoot my 260ai 40-50rds between cleanings w/ no appreciable loss of accuracy. Give the bbl. a real good cleaning using Sweets or one fo te foaming copper cleaners. Then run some JBs bore paste, then clean & try again. BTW, going back & forth...
Lapua is great brass, so is RWS, very durable. I also like Norma & have just bought some Nosler in 280 to try. WW & RP are ok if bought in bulk & culled for wt. You will pay more for Lapua & RWS but they last longer than any other brands I have tried.
Not in an Encore, but my favorite cart. is my 338-06. I have had good luck w/ RL15 under the 210grNP but right now H4350 has been great across the bullet wt. spectrum from 210gr-250gr. For the 225grNP, work up to 60gr max. My Ruger shoots sub moa w/ 63gr under 210grNP using CCIBR2 primers &...
First, I rarely shoot 5 shot groups from a big game rifle. If you are getting consistant 3 shot groups under 1" & the vel. is where you want it to be, then move out to 200 or 300yds & give them a try. SOmetimes, loads that shoot well at 100 shoot poorly out at 200 & vis versa.
If they made a 380gr-400gr fo rmy 404jeffery, all of my hunting bullets would be Partitions. For now I just have to settle on using them in my 260ai, 280, 7mmDakot, 30-06 338-06 & 338x74K.
Not much helps a Mini-14 but handloads will often get the most froma ny rifle. I pretty much handload only for my M1 & M1a. Just keep the vel. off the max. & use med. burning powders & bullets less than 180gr.
No disrespect, but , shooting steel has little to do with shooting game animals. You can drive a 55gr 223 through 3/8" steel plate @ 50yds, but I doubt it gets through a deer shoulder @ the same range. The bullet behaves completely diff. on flesh & bone than it does on steel. I would not use a...
All rifle bbls. are diff. Some bullets just won't shoot. If you are happy w/ the Hornady, use them. I have a .338-06 that just doesn't like any brand of 225gr bullet, so I stopped trying & just shoot the 210gr & 250gr.
My vote is your chamber is max. SAAMI spec. I have seen an exageragted version in a M1 chambered for .308. It shouldn't hurt anything but your accuracy will never be as good as it could be w/ the chamber on the min. side of spec.
