remiington, LR rifle guys will spend the money on those semi custom bbls. They can also squeeze the most out of the accuracy they provide. For 99% of the hunting situations, the other bbl. manuf. make fine products. Plus, if you've ever shot much competition, everone wants to use what the guy...
A lot of this is personal preference, what you are used to. I have never really gotten to like pump guns. My shotgun is a O/U, all my hunting rifles are bolt or single shot. For most hunting situations, a pump gun would provide enough accuracy I just never saw the need for one, maybe jump...
Do you mean brass? The only cartridge I am aware of is the .338Lapua. Lapua does make .30-06 & .300Winmag brass. I use their .243 brass to make .260ai rounds.
Sounds like you might want that WSSM for yourself. For a small person, woman or child I like the .260rem (6.5x55 same thing almost). It's a much better deer round than a .243. Muzzle blast is mild from a 22" bbl. It's qquite effective w/ 120gr-129gr bullets, you could even stretch the 140gr for...
My riflesmith used to use Douglas exclusively. I had him build my first custom rifle using PacNor & rebarreled several since using PacNor. He now exclusively uses PacNor. He believes finish inside & out is better.
To me, the single shot gives you the advantage of not having to worry about magazine length, so a short cart. makes little sense. I would go w/ the 6.5-06.
Tom, I think you'll find 4350 too fast for best results in the 7mag. IMR4831 is the fastest I would go. Otherwise your perf. will be close to a handloaded .280, about 2950fps w/ a 160gr bullet. I can get 2850fps from my .280, 23"bbl. & 7.25# ready to hunt weight.
My rifle likes RL22 & IMR7828 equally well, under 1MOA for three shots. IMR7828 gives a bit more vel. A buddy of mine swears by H1000, your rifle will tell you. H4831sc is very good but I think it starts to run higher pressures for given vel. when you start pushing 160-175gr bullets. I get about...
Tom, probably because RL22, IMR7828 & H1000 offer higher vel. w/ good accuracy & 1005 load density. I like H4831sc for 140gr but when you move up go to a slower powder. H4831 is very accurate in my 7mag but going to slower powder gives me another 100fps w/ same accuracy.
Everyone is free to hunt w/ the cart. they want, a great thing about living in the USA. I have never beleived in "too much gun" for hunting anything. I like the .243 as a varmint round but there are so many better choices even for the low recoil group. To me, big game rounds start @ .257Roberts...
Two things, 4320 is really a bit fast for optimum use & you don't need a mag primer to light it. The mag primer will only increase pressures w/ a faster powder. Try one of the 4350 or 4831 for higher vel. & better accuracy.
There was a good article in the A-Square manula showing actual measured pressures for a load substituting diff. makes & mag vs std. primers. In most cases the magnum primer causes a pressure spike of several 1000psi. I've worked up loads using both & find the std. primer works fine in just about...
Guys I'm not saying change it, I'm saying add a new bullet. It would be better than the Swift as it's a gilding jacket that will generally shoot better than the Swift for most of us. The NAB is a good bullet but actually very close to the NPO in performance. I'm thinking drop the CT all together...
Leaving the lube inside the case neck during bullet seating is actually a negative. You want concistant friction between the case neck & bullet for better accuracy. Deburr, clean the lube out (I use a wool bore mop) & seat the bullets.
My experience is exactly the opposite regarding boat tail bullets. Usually the flat base bullets are more accurate out to normal hunting ranges, say 300-350yds. I like the NAB but a bonded partition, especially the lighter wts. & DG bulelts they would sell, look @ Swift. I don't want Nosler to...
