I'm not sure it would be as simple as rechambering an -06, you might need a magnum action with its larger bolt face or maybe a standard bolt face can be altered?

You are right, the .35 is a necked up .30. I have my Great-Grandfathers .30 Newton, I've loaded ammunition for it, but I haven't shot it yet.
