My son Mitch saw 30 head of elk on some of my wifes property last Thursday night, a day and a half prior to Cascade elk season. I have an Eastern Oregon tag but could have exchanged it for a Cascade tag. The herd consisted on 6 bulls, 4 spikes, the 5x5 and from what I'm told a huge 6x7. The...
Scotty I would think the EOL would be pretty easy to get a good group fairly quickly. I've ran the 215 hybrids and they aren't to picky with seating depth, lives up to Bergers claim.
I've had issues with the primer pockets as well when using Nosler brass. IMO it's WAY over priced for the quality you get. I don't use Nosler brass any more.
If I remember correctly Weatherby offers 1 1/2 3 shot group unless it's a RC accumark. When my 338-378 would barely do 1 1/2 Weatherby didn't even want it sent in as it met their guarantee. I hope your rifle ends up shooting better than the one I had.
I hate to say this but have you tried and...

The 165BT will work but IMO I would either opt for a little more weight, slow them down a little or get a bullet that won't expand quite as violently at 300wm speeds. Just my .02
I have a fairly small additional pack, looks like a fanny pack that I can attach to my pack. I put all my extra cloths in when packing out elk. With my MR pack I can hold 2 front shoulders, or combo there of with a hind quarter. 2 hind quarters is a bit much weight wise but doable if needed.
I...
IMO you have received some great advice and insight regarding your gear. What you have is going to work and work quite well. When your hunt is over you may find there were things you would change gear wise and somethings that worked better than you thought they would. Go enjoy your elk hunt...
I use the Mystery Ranch cabinet pack and I will say it is very comfortable to wear all day. Get the weight of the pack setting on your hips, lean slightly forward and tighten the load lifters and your off. If you were around here you could try mine to see if you liked it.
As for boots I like...
