Well I took my new to me 35 Whelen out for a test run this morning and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Should do very nicely in the mountains for elk. Speed was 2665 3 shot ave. Other 2 single shots were me getting the rifle in paper before shooting for my 3 shot group.
What happened to you could have happened to any one of us. Some times we get to doing to many things at one time even if it's as seemingly easy as checking out 2 different bullet weights, a different powder than normal, primers ect. Glad to know you and the rifle are ok. Thanks for letting us...
I agree with the above. Some form of over pressure sign should have shown up prior to that end result unless there was something really different with those rounds. Maybe you were closer or right a the lans that you thought? Cases too long, over sammi max?
Like you I prefer 40-44mm and that is what I have always used and never had an issue early morning or late evening. My nightforce is 50mm and in addition to med ring height I also had to add a cheek rest to my stock to get a good cheek weld and eye position.
Excellent group. I should get the rifle today. Rumor has it that he has a very accurate load with 225 ab and rl15 but I do like to try new powders and bullets.
