Guy, I'm looking down the barrel at turning 75 this year and enjoyed every word you wrote. Like you, I also have had a heart attack. But mine was 26 years ago while out turkey hunting. After recovering from bypass surgery I've followed my doctor's instructions and medication regiment, and was...
I offered this up a long time ago and it is still available to anyone that can use it, with the same deal.
I have a B-Square #16450 blued mount and rings that fits a Charles Daly Semi-Auto 12 still in the original package. It's free and I will pay the shipping to anywhere in lower 48 states.
I'm shooting a 338-06 Ackley Improved with 210 grain NPT. My son shoots a 35 Whelen with 225 grain SGK. I honestly think that the deer and moose don't know any difference.
I'm with those that load 50 at a time. But I try to keep a sufficient quantity of components to load another 200. It helps during the lean periods when components get hard to find.
I've had it bulge above the web with my 338-06 Ackley Improved. It was Nosler 338-06 A-Square brass virgin brass that was fire formed and then loaded with 61 grains of Reloader 19 and 210 NPT. The load shot well and I had no issues with extraction and or primer flattening. I used that load to...
Welcome! There is a wealth of knowledge among the members, and it is always interesting to share and read others perspectives on different subjects. I'm 74 and I think I learn something new every time I login.
The Midwest has changed over time too, but not like the California influence on the West coast and Colorado! I think either WY or SD are great choices.
If they are close in low light conditions, I would opt for the 1.75-5x20 for flexibility in different hunting conditions. That said, there is an advantage to using a fixed power, you are never reaching for the power ring when you should be focused on taking the shoot. I also hunt swamps, so I...
I'm interested in hearing what powders are considered "must have" on your shelf for working up loads. Also, what cartridges you would consider them useful for. We know that there is no such thing as a universal powder but some tend to be our go-to choices to at least try. For me four powders are...
My only experience with a 338 is my 338-06 Ackley Improved. It is a joy to shoot, doesn't beat the heck out of me, and is capable of taking anything that I plan to hunt.
I've not owned a Burris but from the comments I need to take a look them. My criteria for a good scope is that the glass is clear edge to edge and reticle focus is sharp , it provides sufficient eye relief, it tracks well and it HOLDS ZERO. Over the years I've had scopes that looked good when...
The 50 caliber Green Mountain 1:28 barrel That I put on my Lyman DeerStalker is tight. It makes it difficult to load quickly if you would need a follow up. Has anyone found Sabot sleeves that make reloading easier?
I've not seen a noticeable difference in the accuracy of loads when switching between Winchester WLR and Federal 210. The same with WLRM and 215 when loading for my 7mm RM.
