    New Lightweight Savage Rifle

...well, if the balance point is as far back between the trigger & the magazine as it appears to be, it'll feel like a 9# rifle by the end of the day...

Do I really need this rifle.

...hell, go play w/ it, have some fun, tell the how much you love it & how much you love her. It's a gift, a very thoughtful gift, & I'm betting if you go out & enjoy it, you'll make her day...

    Binocular shopping

...the best ones are the ones you'll actually carry into the field, & not leave laying on the dash because they're too bulky, too heavy, too much of a PITA to pack along. Even smaller, good quality glass will allow you to pick out game well before/ after legal shooting light. If you compare...

    Leupold VX3 CDS 4-14 ????

...I've got the 4.5X14 VX-3 CDS on my .325, since I only use one load for it. If you are looking for 'Magic' or 'Miracles', the CDS might not work for you, but if you take some time, work up a load, carefully chrono it, match it as close to the avg. elev., avg. temp., avg. humidity, well...

    Leveling a Scope

...I use a cheap magnetic level on the bottom 1/2 of the rings, clamp the rifle in my cleaning rest 'level', use a plumb bob to to set the scope. Allows you to slide the scope to set your eye relief before you tighten it down, & check to make sure you haven't canted the scope while you're...

    Almost bought one today!

...they had one of those @ the Worland gun show in .325 WSM a few years ago for $800, I still cry about not getting it now & again...

New to us Rem 700 SPS in 25 Whelen

...well, if the plan is to kill 'em, the 90gr. Sierra BlitzKing (BC 0.0393) w/ 53.5grs. of IMR-4350 @ 3500fps. is pretty hard to beat...

    8mm Magnum(s)

    308 Winchester for Elk....?

...well, in theory, using the same bullet, terminal ballistics will be the same, the major difference is 'distance'. Granted, the .300 WM will deliver much higher MV's/ energy @ shorter ranges, but the .308 will deliver enough @ most normal ranges to do the job just fine. Shoot an elk @300yds...

    8mm Magnum(s)

...well, if Scotty would just buy a .325 WSM we could have some heavy, high BC 8mm Nosler bullets...

    300 WSM and short barrels...

...my 23" barrel Tikka T3 Lite matches Alliant powder data. The short fat cartridges seem to have a faster burn profile, reaching max pressures quicker than larger cartridges, an article where they cut off 2" increments of barrels showed they lost less MV than the larger cartridges...

    Is reloading a chore?

...if it becomes a chore, if you're tired, bored or distracted, it's time to back away from the bench for a while. While it ain't "rocket surgery", for me it takes just enough concentration to shut off the 'white noise' of the modern world for a little while, & it lets me play w/ my more...

    25-06 and 90gr. Sierra HPBT.

...not bad for the smaller cases like .250-3000, probably not a tough enough jacket when pushed @ .25-06 velocities. The 120gr. would probably be a better choice, I've been very happy w/ their performance, & they'll carry more velocity & energy @ 400yds w/ only about an inch more drop...
