I know several of them. Interesting folks is the best way to describe them, some of the most determined people on earth.
Of course, I live pretty close to Two Rivers, the epicenter of long distance dog mushing in the U.S.
My favorite musher, Aliy Zirkle, scratched after a nasty fall coming...
So far, I've had aftermarket triggers by Timney, Rifle Basix, and Trigger Tech. The Trigger Tech is easily the best feeling of the bunch for a hunting style trigger.
I'd say you're on the right side of the line.
We've never hunted elk, but we have taken quite a few good sized caribou bulls and they never shook off a 140 from the 7-08 and your load has a bit more steam behind it than ours did. Shoot straight and get ready to skin an elk.
A 140AB at that...
I'd bet those bullets are undersized. Brass is harder than gilding metal and may be purposely undersized to prevent pressure spikes.
Try to mic them and compare them to a standard bullet that doesn't keyhole.
I finally got to handle one of the rifles. It's light. Very light. Felt like a longer version of my Barrett Fieldcraft, but a long action and full length barrel.
The bad: the action was gritty, stiff bolt lift to open it and not smooth at all pulling it back. I can appreciate it for what it...
I'm looking very favorably toward one of the Tikka T3x Arctic rifles patterned after the Canadian Rangers' C19s.
I'm a sucker for dual diopter iron sights on a carbine and I may take the plunge. The rifle is available in .308Win and 6.5CM... I load, shoot, and really like both cartridges for...
Wife had both doses, no issues except for the usual immune reaction effect from the 2nd dose. Felt crummy for a day, then fine. She works hands on with patients all day, so she felt it a better bet than not.
We don't know a single front line health worker that turned it down, out of dozens she...
That's a nice bevy of cartridges...
I really like H4350 and Superformance in 6.5 and 30-06 and H4831 and Hybrid 100V are excellent in the 300WM.
You've got some very practical and useful cartridges there!
I will say, that of the times I've loaded the "most accurate" powder and load...the results were phenomenal.
It's where I start, and most likely, end my load development process for hunting ammunition.
I've shot stuff with a .270 and a 30-06...and I've bracketed the 280 with the 7-08 and a 7RM.
If there's any difference at all in the field, I think you'd be hard pressed to find it. The differences are much larger on paper than in reality.
Best thing to do is to start off looking in a reloading manual or one of the manufacturer's websites for load data. Not all powders are suitable for all cartridges, but if Nosler, Hodgdon, Hornady or others vendor lists a load for a particular powder in a particular cartridge- you're good to go...
During the last big shortage I had a fellow offer to sell me a brick of 22 for $100. I told him to pound sand and went out and bought an air gun.
I never thought I'd see a time like that again...turns out I was wrong. The scalpers here suck up everything as it hits the shelf.
I'm always on the lookout and investigating new rifles...but never buy them anymore. I have what I like and have no need (nor really the want) for another. I know I'll have to make myself hunt with it and once I have the fun of developing a load and getting it ready to hunt...it'll just sit...
One thing to remember- the 280AI will shoot regular 280REM ammo. A design feature of nearly all of the Ackley Improved rounds is to shoot their source cartridge.
There's not much advantage to buying a regular 280 since the 280AI will fire both.
I agree there...I've got a few rifles that are iron sights only- a Marlin lever gun, a target 22 with dual aperture sights and a sporter 22 with nifty sliding tangent sight that is the bee's knees. I enjoy shooting them and a scope would be out of place on them.
