    Savage 30-30

I’ve got one in 308 and it’s one of my favorite rifles. Use bright orange nail polish on the sight bead. Easily removed as well with nail polish remover

    Mixed powder

So I was given some powders by an older gent I know who is getting out of reloading. Some of the canisters; as far as I can see; have been mixed. One of the imr4895 is full right to the top of the container and one of the varget is well over a pound. How much does this matter? Lots are from 2014...

    Reloading dies

I just received a Forster benchrest seating die for 270win. I got a Remington 700 from 1971 that I need to put in some work with so I figured I’d try the die out with this one. I gotta say just from opening the box on the die I can see a difference is quality or maybe attention to detail but it...

    Savage 30-30

I’m shooting 30gr 3031 with Hornady 170 RN open sights and usually 2.5” at 100yds slightly bett if I bring my glasses. I’ve had good success with 4064, 4895 as well as 748 but at this point only load 3031/170. My best 150 load is with h335 the receipt is on the can I use Hornady 150 or Sierra

    Seating depth value

So this is kinda what I meant by “standard” ie starting at book length then increasing but not the case obviously. I normally start at .020 but I’ve had instances where my 243 in particular where I’ve jammed it into the lands .005 and get good groups and I do know a guy that does benchrest and...

    Seating depth value

So I’ve struggled with this for my entire reloading experience. I understand there is no set value here but each individual rifle has its own. When developing loads how important is it? Should an OCW and preferred boolit be the main focus and seating depth considered after? What about book...

    270 win NBT 130 request

270win and 243win are the only 2 calibers I’ve ever got a deer DRT. All other they ran a short way. 270 was about 70yds NOS AB and 243 was 167yds Horn SST

    243w with RL17

I actually pulled the accubonds and dumped the powder RL17. Loaded back up my H4350 with Sierras about an hour ago

    243w with RL17

    243w with RL17

So I’ve been running my Savage 243w with Sierra PH 100gr and 41.0gr of H4350 pushing them right at or slightly under 3k. Great accuracy and mild recoil. I’ve had 10 rounds loaded for some time now with 90gr accubonds with RL17 @42.0 and put them over the chrono today at 3230fps avg. I had good...

    7mm 08 Ruger American

PA deer are pretty skittish when they’re pressured but I’ve also seen a buddies son who was about 14 shoot right over the back of a deer and the three standing there didn’t even twitch. But as soon as he racked another round they took off, not sure if it was the noise or they saw movement but...

    OAL bullet seating frustration

How much variance are you getting? I know this is grasping at straws but the amount of pressure on the press handle will cause some slight differences. Also just to cover you butt check your press and dies to insure everything is tight and not moving on you.

    OAL bullet seating frustration

Some does you can get different seater plugs for VLD type boolits. I know Hornady makes them but not sure who else

    7mm 08 Ruger American

Either would work well I’ve had good results with Acubonds and varget, imr4064 and H414.

    270 win NBT 130 request

I worked up to 56gr in my savage rifle that provided 3/4” group at 200yds. I never measured speed but it was plenty to catch deers

    OAL bullet seating frustration

Use a chamber measure from Hornady or an empty case and put a lose bullet in it. Get a chamber measurement by measuring the ogive of the bullet then shorten it by .02 and see how that shoots and adjust if needed

    Lyman Gen 6

Thank you!!! I’m gonna run the Ohaus scale and see if I truly need anything more than a good scoop and trickler to measure out charges but I think I’m going with a good powder throw in the near future. As of Nov I’m taking 3 months off so I’ll have time to tinker

    Beam scales

What makes it the end all be all? I’ve never used an electronic scale so I have no reference but ignorance is bliss in my world
