So most of that weight savings has nothing to do with long vs short action then, which is what your post inferred. If you're debating short action vs long, at least compare them comparably equipped.

I'd wonder how you can lose 1-1.5# from a short action to a long action. Most manufacturers put the weight difference at 0.2 pounds or less. The 7 PRC is an attractive cartridge IF you don't already have a 7mm magnum of some flavor, which is your position.

    7mm-08 Bullet Weight/ Twist Rate

My daughter has one (pink camo), and thankfully she's a good shot and has done well with it. A friend had me tune his Axis in 30-06 for an elk hunt this past season. I tried the M-Carbo kit, which helped only nominally. I just ordered the Timney, installed it and gave the owner the bill. I also...

    7mm-08 Bullet Weight/ Twist Rate

If she's bound and determined to get that rifle, at least have her get the Axis II, which has the AccuTrigger. The regular Axis trigger is just plain horrid, even if you try to massage it. I've tried. The only option then is to spend $100+ on the Timney replacement which then makes it at least...

    New chronograph time..... update****

Once you get a remote trigger, anywhere you want. Generally, it's immediately to the left of me on the bench. If you do not have a remote trigger, the placement of the end of the barrel to the unit can make a difference in whether it triggers.

The cost? The app can be a bit quirky, though it's much better than it used to be. In the days when middle school kids design apps for your phone, one would think that a company using it as the main connection to their expensive equipment would do better. I don't change the settings for the...

Yes, I tried that too. I got tired of the strap loosening and worrying about POI changes.

    New chronograph time..... update****

Diffuser or not, I would see 100+ fps variation if it was a sunny day using my optical chrony. I took to shooting at the range very first thing in the morning or only on overcast days. Eventually getting the Labradar cured the problem

    Annealing - Glow or Tempilaq

For those who do it - note that water adds ( or subtracts) nothing to the process. You're just making your brass wet. Try annealing a case for, say, 30 seconds. The anneal doesn't travel down the case very far, you just make the shoulder way too soft. Brass is not steel, so quickly cooling it...

    New Remington rifles

If nothing else, the medium action. The first time I loaded up my 6mm Rem I couldn't believe how short I had to make it to fit in the action of the rifle. There is way too much potential that is displaced by having the bullet seat in so far.

    New Remington rifles

Browning also came out with a fast twist 270 Win. That could be interesting.

    257 Wby and 90gr Hammers

I've always thought my 257 with 115 Ballistic Tips could use a 300-yard zero; I'm betting that's completely true with these at ~4000fps.

I didn't like messing with mounting the Magestospeed, and found that it always seemed to loosen up no matter how much I tried to tighten it. That loosening changes harmonics, which changed groups. That's one of several reasons it was sold.

    Back in FB jail

Ironically that is one of the few reasons I stay on FB. My range posts updates there far more than by email or other ways, and since it's 45 min away I like to know if there's a closure before I leave home.

    New chronograph time..... update****

I have a Chrony Beta Master, sold my MagnetoSpeed, and in the end only really use my LabRadar. With the LR, get a battery pack, remote trigger, and stand or tripod. I also have the LR case to pack it all. Consider an improved sight as well, or do the straw trick as a sight. Also, get an SD...

    Best LED flashlight ?

To add, I have an Eagtac G25C2 with the default XM-L2 LED module. It uses a rechargeable 18650 battery (buy a good one) or two CR123A batteries. The beam distance is incredible, and it's on every hunt that I go on. https://www.eagtac.com/index.php/product/g25c2-mkii/ I also have two Eagtac...

    Best LED flashlight ?

Define "best." As with cartridges, it depends on your goals and objectives. What parameters are you looking for in a new flashlight, other than LED and batteries?
