    6.5x55 does it again...on a 10 pt

That’s a super nice deer, and a great read to boot!

The smoke pole spoke today; Schwarber is no longer a free agent...

Wow, what a stud of a deer! Damn that’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that you pulled off extremely well! In Idaho we have only been able to use round ball, or conical bullets until just this year. What was allowed had to be within .010” of the bore diameter, and could be tipped. But I...

Success - Ready to set ladder stand on new property

That’s fantastic news for your opening day hunt! Glad to hear that you succeeded in harvesting a really nice Whitetail so quickly. It’s great when everything goes well and smoothly for what sounds like you’re getting up there in age? I’ve been telling myself that I need to take the Elk where...

Old Stock gun powder vs New Old Stock.

I’ve never been one to toss out old powder, and tend to save it for breaking in a new barrel. Last week was IMR 4350 from 2006 that was previously used for a 8mm Remington Magnum. I tested it against a newer bottle produced in late September 2001 in my 30/06 after 20 rounds with the stuff...

    Browning BAR 25-06

I’m of the opinion that was typical for a Browning BAR, maybe a little better? I’ve never seen one shoot much less than an inch. That said, I also haven’t seen one in over 25 + years either.

Load Development Methodology - .257 WSM

That’s what I tried in my 6.5/300 WSM Kimber Montana but with 140 grain pills, but I ended up using Retumbo instead. @JMRhino You should be able to make use of the same powders used in the 6.5/300 WSM uses mainly because they are very close in bore diameter and case capacity. I forget what...

How accurate can a RCBS 10-10 scale be?

That’s a long time! I ditched it twenty five years ago for a Pact Digital scale and dispenser. Then I upgraded to the V4 AutoTrickler for the A&D FX120i which sped up the process for volume reloading.

How accurate can a RCBS 10-10 scale be?

That’s the main reason why I still have it! That and weighing Black Powder. Which is more or less a volume to bore size, and why they could just pour a charge. They have a 10 grain node window and will produce the same velocity! My 50 cal is 72.5 with Swiss, and a .490” round ball.

How accurate can a RCBS 10-10 scale be?

Just as accurate as my A&D FX-120i! Although at a much slower pace to use.

    280 AI load Quickload help

I only wish it was easier to get them to shoot, but frankly I can get the identical version that’s not bonded to group tiny three shot groups or bug holes with 5-10 in know time! Fact is the bonding can effect the outcome, if that wasn’t the case then why would they shoot so differently...

    prs, plinker and predtor gun.

I’d go for it. It’s a super accurate round, the BC’s will blow less than the 6mm version and do it with less recoil. The 22 PPC which the ARC is based off, was stupidly good especially in such a small case that will extend your barrel life. I have one being built, and went in that direction...

    Elk bullet in 6.5x55 Swede

Plenty of Elk have fallen to numerous 6.5/.264" projectiles at that distance. That said shot placement is key to success, and a light recoiling rifle with the proper bullet will get the job done! Try either the 125 Partition, or the 127 LRX in your 6.5x55. Both have a lower velocity range to...

    Misfire

Could be a weak spring vs the ammo, or a long chamber pushing the round forward when the firing pin hits it? They look awfully shallow.

    New To Me 30-06 Loads

Stick with the 55.5 grain load and tweak it for seating depth, but that one is closer to what you want to see. I Always prefer to see a triangle of any size over anything else. Usually the odd fliers are because of a seating depth issue and it wants to shoot but needs tweaking. Or a...

Hey 350 Rem Mag Guys: RL-15 and 250s

That’s great to see that again JD! That one is exactly what I remember way back in the late seventies that a close friend of mine dad had, and I couldn’t believe how quickly it pointed on target. My favorite part was the vent rib and how well the sights were visible. The dog leg bolt...

    Got my Pronghorn

That’s great to hear you’re out in the field and having fun hunting again FOTIS! I’m planning on building a 22ARC/6.5 CM combo bolt gun. Glad you reported the results as I wasn’t even thinking about using a. .22 for big game on smaller sized animals and why I’m doing a switch barrel. Good...

Elk rifle ready for next month.

FOTIS, I’ve seen a lot of people that really love these projectiles. Was it easy to Tune? Side note, you can make a pig fly, but would it be somewhat easier than a typical bullet/rifle to make shoot?
