Haven't figured out how to make the transfer pretty yet, but this should do.

CL, yep, same process as the other stock. Not too hard to do.
Teach, some people love the grippy feel and buy them. I bought into the camo pattern but was neutral on the rubber feel. Really, the price was right for a nice rifle to chase moose and elk with. I have owned the rifle for 9 years...
I have tried all three. I didn't appreciate revolutionary improvements over other available powders. I did look briefly at temp stability with 4451 and 7977. 0.5ish fps per degree change isn't bad. Powders burn HOT, not the best for range work in the summer time. May help with copper...
I didn't call Browning. Thought about it but decided it wasn't worth the bother, I had already redone the bedding on this one.
TMH, thanks for the compliment. The more of these I do, the easier they get.
I was one of the unfortunate ones that got a defective DuraTouch stock on a Browning ABolt. It was always really tacky, but last year it became sticky and started to peel. Since I planned on hunting with it, I just sprayed it with clearcoat to try to stabilize it. That worked for hunting, but...
And sometimes luck just keeps flowing. I should buy a lottery ticket. Found a 2.5-8x VX-3i on sale locally, 100 bucks off.
And got the Talleys aligned and lapped. Scope mounted and leveled. Boresighted on the neighbors garage window a quarter mile away.
Final weight 8.01 pounds. May...
Painting the stock is simple. I degrease the stock with acetone, sand down the seams from the injection molding process, sand all of the smooth surfaces with 600 grit paper to rough it up, and degrease again.
Then I use Krylon Fusion paint for the base color. This one was their Olive Drab...
I have never used 4064. Might be time to. Was planning on H4350.
The rifle is a tank. I think rust will be it's only enemy. I was surprised that being an injection molded stock it has almost no flex in the forend after opening the barrel channel up. I may not have to restock it.
Won't get...
Got some stock work done. Opened the barrel channel, added some color, bedded recoil lug and rear action screw, and installed a new recoil pad.
Looking at a FX-3 6x or a VX-3i 2.5-8x Leupold in Talley lightweight rings.
Picked up 2 bags of Winchester brass, was shocked to only find a 1 grain...
Picked up a new project rifle for next to nothing. This rifle is the New Haven equivalent of the Remington box store ADL, originally retailing in the 90s for 375 to 400 bucks. Found it sitting at the store with $250.00 price tag because there was a little rust on the wing of the safety and the...
My 200gn Accubond load over RL17 produces the same 2900fps muzzle velocity. Works on elk but tenderizes the shoulder a bit much. The BTip load is pretty smooth at that velocity and crushed that buck.
Doc, if I were you, I would but a little more wear on your barrel and try the BTip.
Comparing to my experience with the 7 STW, I would bet IMR 7828 would get you around 3200fps and be very accurate. The case fill will be close to 100% with complete powder burn. RL33 will get you an extra 100fps but might not be quite as accurate. The load will be slightly compressed and burn...
JD, it deflected off of on side ribs, though it is possible that the bullet may have encountered a twig a few feet before hitting the deer. Changed angle 30 to 40 degrees or so...
Doc, it is a "soft" shooting load. I could run the velocity up some more I suppose, or switch to a different...
This is the bullet from my buck this year.
325 WSM, 64.0gn H4350, muzzle velocity 2900 fps. Quartering slightly towards me, chest shot that deflected off ribs and ended in far side hip. Retained 103gn weight.
Just sorting the reloading bench and came across this old bullet. It is one of two ballistic tips that I have ever recovered.
This one was from my 7 Rem Mag, 62.5gn IMR 4350, muzzle velocity 3035 fps. I have taken more than 20 deer with this load. This was a Kansas buck at 125 yards, shot...
