    Modern rifles, tool vs. soul

It seems to me the younger set doesn't have the passion for craftsmanship in many things, and, don't care for them nearly as much. When I see what some people do with their houses and cars, I'm sometime appalled. I started hunting with wood and didn't adopt anything synthetic for probably 35...

Axis Buck today with the 257 Wby.

    Nice buck, where were you?

    Weatherby/Fotis/Others

I take the 300 for everything now; Africa, NZ and North America. One cartridge, one load, one scope.

    Oregon 2017 deer camp

Well, if "Big Buck Ridge" is like every "Elk Creek" I've ever been to, you won't see anything! Good luck!

    Copper cleaning

I have compared the Gunslick foam to the Wipeout foam and the Wipeout wins every time. I admit I'm a chemical junkie and have partial bottles of lots of things. I've just finally started to throw away the rejects. Now I go with Boretech Eliminator or KG if in a hurry, Wipeout / Accelerator if...

Tough Bullet Opinions - Large Game

I would definitely drop down to the 130's if selecting the Barnes. Any of these bullets will do the job at hand.

    Land Owners...

Our policy was always that adjoining owners had standing permission, but not the people they had let on their land. It was a different time, I guess.

    Hunting packs

If you are in the east, I recommend a pair of disposable gloves for field dressing. A lot depends on how far "out" you might be, and the likelihood you might have to spend the night.

Check out the AMP machine. I so want one of those.

    NZ Stag and the .30-06

Here's the others. On the first picture, the camera is angled - it is much steeper than it looks. If I had let go, I would have had to chase him further down the mountainside. The KUIU lightweight gear was a godsend for this old guy going up and down the mountains. All in all, a...

    NZ Stag and the .30-06

That's hers, I have a different "wall of death"! Horns/Antlers and hides are all that one can import to the US from almost everywhere. The good news is none of these animals are CITES-listed so it is a relatively painless process. They still have to go through a USDA facility, though. The...

    NZ Stag and the .30-06

Quite a bit of NZ is estate hunting, particularly for stags or Rusa. It seems more so on the North Island than the South. My Tahr, Chamois and Ram were all free-range. The stag was on an estate, but it was huge and you had to hunt. It wasn't a case of fenced animals lined up. I hunted with...

    NZ Stag and the .30-06

On my trip to NZ at the end of May we had a chance to chase some stags. One of those we saw was particularly nice and the stalk was on. This young lady's .30-06 Blaser R8 with 180 grain Accubond handloads resulted in a no chase scenario at a little over 200 yards, the farthest she has ever...

Do you load for other people?

Very rarely. More often than not, I offer to teach them on my equipment and they do the loading.

    BEARS

Depending on terrain, it is tough to beat a 45-70 in a lever.

What is this with my brass and what does it mean??

Another odd one. Your pic is a little blurry, but, I have a couple of observations. First, measure the case. If it has stretched in such way that "ring" is thinner then these cases are scrap. If that's stretch, the chamber and the rounds don't match. You should also make sure the chamber is...

One bullet choice for all of your rifles, for all big game?

We're all lucky we aren't in the CA condor zone!

    Rifle/Bullet weight

I used to have the one load, one rifle/caliber, but, no more. I've actually reduced my caliber-fiddling and increased the number of loads. As an example, for the 300 Weatherby I have 168 grain TTSX, 180 grain TTSX, 150 CEB FB Raptor and 130 CED FB Raptor loads ready to go and scope dial setting...

Favourite rifle or cartridge for various big game species?

I definitely think about it, but Blaser doesn't make a barrel in it yet! I would buy a ULW but not with a brake on it. I despise those things, just personal preference.
