Weight vs volume is a heated topic.
The powder manufacturers produce the powder to a controlled volume.
Large ammo makers run process control and quality sampling programs to fine tune the process. When they offer various grades of the same round then I would suspect that the lower priced...
Reviving an old thread with a question or two and a few comments.
Question :)
Has anyone tried sizing with a body die (RCBS or Redding) and neck sizing with a Lee Collet die for 22N reloads?
Lee will make a custom collet die ($$) but it looks like you can accomplish the same with the .223...
Back to report some more on Nosler's red headed step child :)
Over the past couple range trips I have found the following:
CFE223 works for the 'Lighter' 70RDF and 75AMAX, but for heavier bullets, a slower powder like IMR 4350 is better. I found a pretty good spot running 2980fps (80ELD) from a...
Heads up for a sale.
Midway has some 22N ammo on Clearance.
My past experience with their clearance ammo has been hit or miss.
22N 62gr old stock wit the sharp edges is my latest.
Chucked and beveled they are fine, just extra labor, but the price was right.
Now they have the 77grain CC, 70gr...
Update: Adventures with the 22N :)
I took the March 450yd comp in Florida, Duh :)
And just did a 600 F-open in Pascagoula.
From a rest this time. Dropped a shot or two but am happy as a - - - - - - -
80ELD, Hagar cases, CCI450, 2.460", and 10 carats of IMR4350.
Best string was 185-2X and...
Been a while and not much activity with the 22 Nosler.
Here in the forum, or me at the range :(
Getting things ready for the 450yd shoot in South Florida at the end of the month and will be using the 24" set up as a single shot.
The 80gr ELD load I used last October still seems to be best. I...
building up a whole bunch of bullets and loads to go test, if I can ever get to the range :(
Here's the 85 RDF (blems) compared to a couple of other bullets.
You can continue to post Photobucket images without having everyone install a fix on every device they own.
I've been using Photobucket for years and none of my pics are blocked. Maybe it's the way you link to them.
Link wrong and everyone needs the fix to view it.
Too late for old posts...
Resized 100 Hagar cases and have them ready to load.
Still haven't been able to get the 24" BA out to the range.
I have some 22N loaded with IMR4350 to try and determine a reasonable upper limit with the 80gr ELD loaded LONG at 2.460"
With the resized Hagar holding about a grain less powder...
Received some Hagar brass and ran a few through the sizing die.
Have to trim them about 0.030".
The Hagar brass is heavier (131gr vs 116gr) and holds a little less powder
(35gr CFE223 to 36.2gr carded to the top).
Weight range for 150 cases was 129.2 Grains to 132.2 Grains
(corrected...
It does seem like a sturdy hunting type projectile maybe for some older short cased round. The price got down to 8.4 cents per bullet before they ran out of stock. The channelures and the ring in the back cut down bearing surface some but it still will likely require backing down some from the...
OK, you have convinced me :)
With Christmas, family, weather, still haven't been able to shoot the BA barrel so I ordered some Hornady Hagar brass. Have to locate a 6.8 bolt.
I'll be able to shoot both ways.
Midway has the 100 count box of 22N brass on clearance.
(not the 250 count bag)
Price is $48.47 plus shipping. Might go lower :) Might not :(
For me, adding a $2.99 Free shipping item cut shipping costs a little.
Total, including a round up was $54.00
Maybe they will have another ammo...
I've also got a BA barrel, but haven't shot it yet.
It's the 24" target crown. Just couldn't pass it up with a Cyber Monday $90 off plus a free upper (no BCG, no charging handle) and free shipping.
I use my 20" ARP upper for prone/sling, and will use the BA upper off a rest (4.5 pound...
I lightly chuck the case in a battery drill and use a piece of 320 grit, backed by a bar held by hand at exactly the correct angle :).
Then some finer grit to smooth the rim a little.
Stay away from the underside of the rim and don't reduce the Outside Diameter.
Doesn't seem like much effort...
Assembled another 22N upper tonight.
Got a Cyber Monday deal on a 24" Ballistic Advantage barrel, $90 off and a free assembled upper receiver (which will go into the parts box :) ).
Used a BCA side charge upper and BCG, Mentium-USA 15 inch Handguard.
Might try it later this month @ 600 from...
