    Cracking up at myself

I had a Sigma 17-40 when I first went digital. It was a little soft and I traded it and some cash for the canon version. The 150-600 gets very good reviews and the fact is if you want a 600mm and you want to stay with the major brands you have to be ready to spend used car money because you can...

    Another Washington Ram

    Cracking up at myself

Thanks Guy. I'm pretty happy with it so far. There is a little learning curve with what it will and wont do and what to expect from it. Also what I need to do with my settings to get to it's full potential. I had several not so good photos but most had to do with the operator not the lens. I've...

    Black Bear

Thanks Guy, These photos were taken in Cades Cove which is part of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The bears there never really hibernate. They will den up in the colder weather and of course to give birth but it's not like in the colder climates where they will den/sleep for 3-4 months...

    What has happened to Speer?

I haven't seen many but there were a few online at a couple of sites a few months back and I got 3 boxes of 100 grain .257 caliber. What I haven't hardly seen any of are Sierra's Bruce

    Whitetail Buck II

Still working through photos. Here is another buck taken earlier in the day but only about 400-500 yards from where the other buck I posted was.

    Whitetail Buck

Another image from Thanksgiving weekend and the Sigma lens. As you can tell he had been chasing a doe that wasn't overly accepting of his advances.

    Black Bear

Over Thanksgiving weekend I got a chance for the wife and I to get away and for me to try out my new Sigma 150-600 f6.3 lens. This one was only set to 361mm and was then cropped but I had to get this one quickly as she went through and opening in the trees. This one is one of her cubs and was...

    Rings help?

Burris and Leupold both made bases like this but if I remember correctly to Leupold had a scalloped edge running down the top sides and the Burris were squared corner like this on. Maybe that didn't hold true for all of them though it's been awhile and my rememberer isn't what it use to be. Bruce

    QuickLoad Request for a 260REM

Deerhntr noticed that in my original QL data posts that I had left the COAL set to the length of my 260 Remington loads and not standard COAL. I have corrected the data and anyone who may have copied this can recopy to correct this. This shouldn't be a problem for someone working up to a max...

    Cracking up at myself

Guy, I finally broke down and got the Sigma 150-600 that I mentioned above. It just came in yesterday and I have only taken a few snapshots jus to get the feel for it. I haven't even loaded them onto the computer yet. So far just looking at the camera display it appears to be ok. I'm looking...

    Bighorn Ram

That's awesome Guy. That is one of the animals I would love to get a decent photo of. We don't seem to have too many here in Georgia and I have only see a very few when I happen to go where they live. Mountain goat is another but I have yet to get to see one of those. Bruce

    Powder choice for shorter barrel

One last update. I fired one more group with the XP100R and the 43 grain RL17 load. I didn't get another .25" group or even .5" but it did do .80" and the one shot each on the 300 and 400 yarn steel hit close to center and with a very loud smack on the target. Much more noticeable than the 100...

    Powder choice for shorter barrel

I made it to the range to test the above loads. I was loading the Sierra 130 TGK in Peterson brass which is quite a bit heavier (15gr +-) than my Remington brass. With 43 grains of RL17 and a 3 shot group I got 2577fps avg. ES/11 and SD/7and this appears to be very close to a max load in my...

    Powder choice for shorter barrel

I Hope to get to the range tomorrow with my Remington XP100R pistol which has a 14 or 15 inch barrel (I forget). and test some loads with two different powders. I can tell you that the loads I have already tested I get 2600+- with Varget and a 120-123 grain bullet and about 100fps less with...
