Hog Hunting with a 6mm/243 Caliber.

The cartridge will not be a 243Win but a 6mm-284 with quite a bit more speed behind it. I launch the standard 80gr at 3650fps. I figure the 90gr at about 3500+fps, about 300fps faster than the 243Win.

I do understand and agree. I am using either my .375 Am.T.R. short magnum or my 7.62x45 Czech. My son is using a 8mm Mauser. The issue is the last hunter which is what he has. Even with the 30cal I aim behind the ear. The 375 or 8mm I wouldn't care. The game is going down. A few years ago my dad...

OK I went out yesterday AM to re-set my sights which I had to replace the front blade on. I had to mount a taller blade because my rear sight was all the way down and so far back that the bolt handle was hitting the orifice of the peep sight when I opened the bolt. It tool me three groups of 5...

Hog hunting in Oklahoma, let's talk (Addictive Hunting)

I figure that the drive from Chicago should be about 12 hours if I go non stop. I know that Chicago to Quantico VA takes me about 13.5 non stop. That is also when I catch DC traffic. Now I am also contemplating if I should bring my little 7.62x45 Czech carbine which I built on a Mini Mk.X. I...

Here is the link to them http://addictivehunting.com/lodge I am looking on the satellite map attempting to find it. They have not yet provided the actual address of the lodge to me. The hunt is $450/P so should be worth it no matter what. I remember as a little child in what was than...

Hog hunting in Oklahoma, let's talk (Addictive Hunting)

Hello Guys, I have a hunting trip scheduled for early February of 2016 for hog in Western Oklahoma. Specifically at the Addictive Hunting Ranch. I have been going through the WWW and trying to find something on a "neutral site" I found a couple blogs on some archery sites which seam to have some...

Hog Hunting with a 6mm/243 Caliber.

Just came back from the range. I only shot the 1:11 twist to test the bullets. The 100gr would not stabilize enough even though it is a lead core. The best group I could get at 100y is about 2.5". The 90gr stabilized much better and I got about a 1.5" group. This tells me that the 1:10 will be...

Hog Hunting with a 6mm/243 Caliber.

I do agree about the 80gr being my mass of choice but I absolutely hate the TTSX bullets because I can not get them to stabilize in any hi-velocity barrel with a loose twist and they copper fowl barrels really badly. The GMX I do not like ether because I also can not get them to stabilize as...

Hog Hunting with a 6mm/243 Caliber.

I just ordered a few boxes of the 90 gr Ballistic Tip to try. I sure hope it stabilizes in that 1:10 twist. If not than They will be wasted. my only other two 6MMs are also another 1:10 and my 243 win which is even worse at 1:11.

Hog Hunting with a 6mm/243 Caliber.

Because the 100gr bullet with a poly tip will be very long, I don't think it would stabilize well with a 1:10 twist. I think that the 90gr is pushing it with that twist and the length of the bullet. I have found that when I use poly tipped bullets I have to decrease my bullet mass with some...

I considered the Taylor at the time but I wanted to fit the cartridge into a standard Mauser action with the bullet placed only in the neck and not incurring into the case which reduces powder capacity anyway. This was my solution and I was fortunate that my calculations worked out perfectly. I...

    AccuBond 375 Cal 260 Grain Spitzer 54413

Well, I managed to make it out yesterday. Unfortunately I did not check the club calendar and the 100y range was booked by one of the local PDs for their annual CQBc or what ever they do with their puny ARs. So I decided to try my luck at the 200y range. I never shot this at 200 yards because I...

Don't ask me why, but I just LOVE shooting this rifle. Every time we go out it feels like I'm making out with some absolutely gorgeous Amazon. I am totally warn out exhausted when I'm done but I have a smile on my face and am completely satisfied. At the age of 56 that do not happen too often...

Hog Hunting with a 6mm/243 Caliber.

Thank you guys. This is a lot of help. Normally it would never be my #1 or even #2 choice but one of my friends wants to buy my 6-284 with a 26" barrel. I originally built it to snipe Coyotes at 500+ yards but am building something even bigger in the 6mm category. So I have no use for this rifle...

Hog Hunting with a 6mm/243 Caliber.

I know about hogs, and have hunted them with everything from a thirty cal up to a 375. Now,--- Anyone think that a 90gr AccuBond .245 bullet, placed reasonably well will bring down a, say, 250-300# pig with reasonable humanity? I know guys take pigs with ARs and .223 ammo. The cartridge would be...

OK just went out today (one day later) to try again. Here is a new 8rd group with much less wind and also in comparison to a 5rd group of Sierra 150gr SptzBT. The new Nosler group is 3". The Sierra group we won't talk about and is just for reference. As we used to say in the Corps, "For...

Here is one question that I would like to get answered. Is this 54413 bullet a replacement for an older bullet 37260? That bullet was labeled. "Solid Base Ballistic Tip (Safari tip)". My newest Nosler Manual is dated 2002 in which that bullet is listed, and the largest bullet I have used from...

You are right about the 350 RemMag. I originally used it to make the cases but they wound up too short and split at the base after two re-loads. The 350 case starts out at 2.17" and mine is 2.255". 85 thou is quite a bit. I love this bullet, cartridge and load combination. I doubt that there is...
