    Loading .270 without the rifle

All of this^^^ No way would I try to load for somebody else’s rifle without measuring distance to lands myself. FL size, moderate load, factory COAL……

Will Nosler ever bond a Partition bullet?

I’ve witnessed probably 75+ elk killed with Pt’s. Have never seen a Pt “rupture” on big bone even with smaller caliber Pt’s. I’ve hit the ball and socket on a large bodied mature bull—the biggest bone on an elk—with a 270, 150g Pt and it traveled almost the length of the bull. The bullet was...

Which bullet for 308 and Elk

You definitely can go wrong with the BT and ELDX. One of the Accubonds…most definitely is the obvious choice. Elk ain’t deer. I would never base my choice of an elk load on its performance on deer.

    100,000 PSI?

The new 100k psi cartridges are advertised as not being reloadable. Of course they wholly underestimate the nature of handloaders….. Cartridges are not patented—there are one or two notable exceptions. Consequently die manufacturers don’t pay royalties.

    100,000 PSI?

The video doesn’t mention about any effect on suppressors. Maybe wrong, but I think 100k psi in something like the Backcountry will be hard on suppressors. And if we think that handloading has become expensive in recent times with our current cartridges, can’t wait to see what it’ll cost...

    H4350 vs IMR 4350

Just the opposite, but there’s always exceptions. Chamber and bore dimensions, brass capacity, can always change things. Slower burning powder usually will require a larger charge.

    H4350 vs IMR 4350

This^^^ IMR4350 is temp sensitive. H4350 is arguably the most temp stable powder available to us mere handloaders. I do temp test once or twice most winters, and I’ve never seen H4350 show signs of velocity loss or POI change. I have seen it every time with IMR4350. The caveat here is most...

    Talk to me about VihtaVuori

Your first patch with the VV single base powders will come out black….. VV single base powders are thought to be among the cooler burning powders available, and can produce low ES. The double base powders are considered among the hottest burning. Flame temp and throat erosion are a...

    Switched to bigger cartridge

I have a pair of 243’s that have accounted for 14 elk—all them with 100g Pt’s. Mostly in the hands of youngsters. Regardless, there’s not much big game hunting a 243 can’t accomplish with a stout bullet. When it comes to critters like elk it’s the bullets we choose rather than the cartridge.

    Elk Hunting Caliber

I would plan on being equally prepared to take shots at 60 yds. A rifle that handles well, carries easily, and a scope that allows a wide FOV will net a lot of elk. In 35+ years of guiding I’m not aware of any outfitters (assuming you’re going on a guided hunt) tell a client to be prepared for...
