I’ve used Hoppes #9 and very fine steel wool to get that off of old mil surp rifles before too.
Took it off & didn’t hurt the bluing at all.

Ok, thanks a lot. I load for a friend that has a 7-08. I am going to try this powder out & see how it performs.
His is a Thompson Pro Hunter. I believe it’s got a 28” barrel.

Interesting article, I appreciate reading them for no other reason other than to soak up some historical data.
For the record my favorite wildcat that gets no love is the 8mm06.

I have a leupold scope like that on my old Winchester 9422. Real light weight and let’s me see those busy tails in the trees again.

Looks like you found a diamond in the rough. Post up a range report after you get to spend some quality time with it.

Quite a entrance wound for sure.
I’ve had exit wounds that size when I hit a white tail buck with a 165 gn Hornady soft point. This was from my 30-06,
Last one I zapped with that bullet was big enough to put a soft ball in. Lost a bit of meat on that one.
Congrats to you on getting a really...
I’ve been missing a .22 mag in my collection. I had an older Marlin bolt gun that was really accurate.
I’ve been thinking of replacing it with the Ruger American compact, just don’t know if the 18” barrel would be beneficial to the little cartridges ballistics or not.
It would be nice though...
41.5 Varget & a Winchester lg rifle primer is what I load for my buddies 7-08 Prohunter. He likes the 140 gn sph too.
