Just got home from a quick one day hunt. Client got this 8'4"
Grizzly at 110 yards. 340 wbthy and a few brushy backup shots from my 416 ruger convinced him it was over. This was of those stubborn ones. But nothing my havalon knife couldn't handle.
I've always had some pet peeves with kill
Photos.
Holding deer antlers....ugh drives me nuts! Not much there don't cover it up!!
Sitting on animals....it's not a ride at the fair.
Strange out of place objects under animals heads...don't stack firewood under a bears face then sit behind it...
Haven't had moose end up in water, my second shot is always in the head on moose. Unless they are walking towards camp!! Had plenty of brown bears in the water though....
I have had lung shot deer run and be found by bigger animals before I've gotten there. So lung shooting is a no no in my book. I'd rather loose a front shoulder than all four shoulders. Perhaps each environment has a say in where shot placement should be based on specific challenges of the area?
Dinner bell bears is a ledgend based off a old outdoor life article. Never seen it remotely happen. I sleep with all my deer meat right out the door of the tent, my food, capes, heads in the tent. Been doing that for 18 years on kodiak.
If dinner bell bears was true, be a lot of people mauled...
375 HH and 416 rem are fantastic deer caliber! Any bullet constructed for thick skinned game is usually great for broadside shots on deer. More like shooting solids. I've shot numerous deer on kodiak island with big bore and have always had less meat damage than conventional "deer" rifles...

Well, first season baiting has been legal in the area I guide. I figured it'd be easy peazy. I was wrong. Took a week of learning curve to figure these Bears out! Second hunt we had it dialed in. Shot two 9' grizzly three hours apart on the second night. We did loose the second one and not...
Lol your probably right! I've never met anyone who carries a hunting rifle loaded either. I had a client insist he carry loaded while hunting a salmon streams I told him go ahead, but I'll be leaving. He loaded up, I started leaving, got about a hundred yards and he decided he didn't want to be...
They did a survey on another forum in Alaska about who carries their rifles loaded and it was over 40% load their guns when they step outa the truck. I was shocked.
