When I first married Kelli, ( a little over 30 yrs ago) she felt a little left out when I would go fishing or hunting. I decided I would take her with me and it has worked out beautifully. She has killed a number of Mule deer bucks and 1 cow Elk. We just finished up a second season Colorado Elk...
Thanks for all the info on the primers.. Looks like CCI 200's will do the job.
Great info Dr Mike... and you say you are no expert..
Looks like I might have 1000 CCI 250's for trading material..
take care

jimbires,
Thanks so much for your help.. I have often thought about trying a Magnum primer and wasn't sure if it would be a benefit. Something to try and post the results..
Once again,
Thanks
Ed
270 Win, 150 gr Speer Grand Slam, Powders IMR 7828ssc, Norma MRP, I have CCI 200 or CCI 250 primers, I am not sure which primer would be better.. :?:
Thank you in advance to everyone who is so willing to help.
Ed
Thanks Dr Mike, I thought that was probably the case. I had read the owners manual and it had no info on tumbling loaded cartridges, so I thought I would ask the experts..
I truly have a wonderful wife who shares my passion for all things outdoors. The best hunting partner a man can...
My wonderful wife Kelli recently gave me one these as a Bday gift. My questions is regarding putting loaded cartridges in this to clean them up a bit. Is it safe to do so?
Thanks
Ed
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Looks like anywhere from $900 to $14,000 would cover it. I could probably handle around 1200 to 1500, but herein lies the problem. My wife needs a rifle with about a 12.25 inch LOP, so a custom stock would be in order. Not sure what that...
Other that a custom gun, I am looking for a Long Action rifle in 257 Bob for a Christmas gift for my wife. Does any of the manufacturers chamber this caliber right now? I was able to pick up one 9 yrs ago, Ruger M77 MKII, on closeout at Sportsmans, but haven't had much luck locating one now...
I recently purchased 2 Nikon Prostaff 4-12 x 40 and have really been impressed with the fit and quality. Usually around $200, but you can catch them on sale and get a better deal. I have a couple Leupold VX1's, and the Nikon's are a step up for sure..
Take care

I have loaded 6 3load batches with the OAL starting at 3.380 using the Hornady comparator, (magazine max), and working down .005 with each succession.60.5 gr Norma MRP, Nosler 140gr Accubond. The last 2 batches are under SAAMI specs. Hopefully one batch will show acceptable accuracy, Elk season...
Looks like I will be letting my daughter use my Weatherby Vanguard S2 270 Win for the first 4 days of the 2nd season Colorad Elk Hunt. Probably carry my Marlin 444 SS with Hornady 265gr FTX factory loads until I get my 270 back. My wife will be using her Ruger M77 270 Win for the same hunt...
So I went powder shopping at our local Sportsmans and was able to get IMR 7828SSC in a 1 lb container, and they had all the Norma powders on sale but no MRP in 1 Lb, so I bought one of the 8 lb. Looks like MRP has great potential.. I loaded up 5 rnd batches, with COAL set to SAAMI specs. with...
Thanks so much for the replies and the QL info.. lots of great info to think about. DWH, how does the QL info translate to real world? I know a lot of this depends on each individual rifle and its characteristics, but as a rule is it accurate?
Once again, Thank you.

Just looking for some input for an optimum powder for 270 win, 140gr, either Hornady SST or Nosler Accubond? Imr 4831 has always been my go to and has given me good returns, but I haven't really branched out from there. Going to do a second season Bull Elk hunt in Colorado, unit 551 and/or 68...
Well my wife and I won't be hunting mulies in Colorado this fall.. applied for 2nd season unit 551. :( Had 2 points and was hoping we would draw, oh well better luck next year. Might just go and buy OTC Bull Elk.
Anybody have any luck?
Take care
Ed
Thanks Reverend... I will definitely give him a call. I had contacted ER Shaw and it seems they have enough business and the customer svc would be iffy at best.. It would be good to deal with someone you can lay an eyeball on..
Once again.. Thank You

My Wife, oldest daughter and I applied for 2nd season Mule deer in Colorado, unit 551.
Will be going to scout in mid - late Sept and if the Elk looks promising might buy OTC Bull tags. I have lived in Utah for almost 5 years and have never bought or applied for anything.. I don't like to have...
I am looking for a good Gunsmith. I live near Fairview, but work in the Provo area. Would be willing to drive a couple of hours for the quality. Looking to rebarrrel a Ruger M77 MKII in 257 Better Bob.. (257 Ack Imp.) Possibly have a 270 win reamed to 270 Imp..
Thanks
Ed
Nice bunch of Elk.. You don't happen to work for the UPRR? I do and get called out at times too. Had a couple of cows standing on the road on the way home the other evening. Glad they just stood and watched me pass by..
Has anyone tried this powder with 140 gr Accubonds? I plan on working up a load with these bullets for my wifes 270 in a Ruger M77 22 inch tube, and my Weatherby Vanguard 24 inch tube. Have a Mule deer hunt planned in Coloardo this fall and these accubonds should fill the bill nicely.
