I mainly use my 280 on deer. A buddy of mine refuses to buy his own rifle, and he uses this rifle, so it gets used 1 day during deer season and then becomes my backup. With that being said...I might just load up 30 rounds of Load "C" and let him have at it
I can't really say how...
Any thoughts?
I'll definitely try load "G" again. There's a good chance that I pulled one shot...might even try some with the bullet seated another 0.005'' deeper just to see what it'll do. All were loaded with 55.0 gr of R-22. Loads A & B weren't worth posting a picture of.
Load C...
Made it out to the range this morning. It was a nice morning, especially for the first of August (65* & rainy with a 15-25 mph south wind). I ran through ten more rounds with both Norma and Winchester brass at 59 gr. and not-a-one showed any signs of pressure (no neck splits). I didn't bother...
I've got a Featherweight stock I pulled off of a Model 70 Classic I'd like to get rid of. It's posted in the Classified section.

PM me if you're interested.
I'm leaning toward defective case too.
I have tested this load with brand new Norma brass, and anywhere from 1-fired to 4-fired Winchester Brass (nickle plated) and this split neck is the only problem I've had. Bolt lift is fine and the primers look ok. This powder is out of the same 5 lb jug...
Now that's how to spend a day. That's a nice collection.
The 260 is definitely showing some promise. I would shoot the 42 gr? (far right group) load again, but maybe a little tweaking on the seating depth might fix that load right up.
Good work.
I'm having the opposite problem. I can't get the TTSX's to shoot worth a crap...I think I've gone through at least 1 box trying to find a decent load. The AB's took 11 rounds to find a load.
I've got a brand new box of 140 gr. TTSX's on the shelf I'd like to get rid of.
The 19 other cases looked fine (20 total - 10 Winchester Nickel/10 Norma).
The split neck was on a first time fired, brand new shiny Norma case. The split was from the very top of the case mouth about 1/2 way down the neck.
The Winchester brass were on their 4th firing and they were all...
Thanks.
I'm gonna retest this load at 40 in/lbs on the action screws next time out and go up from there just to see what it does.
I did find 1 split neck on my brand new Norma brass. Not sure what to think. Primers look fine and the bolt lift was normal.
Got out to retest the 140 gr. AB load from a couple of weeks ago. The results weren't quite as good as last time. After readjusting my rest at the bench, I was able to put this 3-shot group together at 200 yds. It's a tad over double the size as last time (0.635'' to 1.435''), but still...
I think you're on your way. My 25-06 gave me fits when trying to work up a load. Keep playing with powder charges & seating depths (not at the same time though) and you should find a sweet spot in there.
Shameless plug: I have a featherweight stock for sale (right hand / long action).
Ok...weird question.
How difficult is it or how would someone go about resizing 25-06 brass to 280 Rem (maybe it's not possible)? The reason I ask is I was going through my brass last night and I've got more 25-06 brass than I'll ever go through. Which got me thinking...could I neck any of...
