You might consider converting to the 140gr Berger in the 270WSM. Doing so in the 270Wby makes the 'bee flatter, with less drop out to 1000 (as far as I calculated) than the 26Nosler. It's a neat idea, but I suspect it will go the way of the 7mmRUM before too long. Very few people will want to...
I don't care for shims, but some folks don't mind them. I much prefer proper base/receiver mating and using the plastic inserts with the Signature rings for eliminating the last tolerance issues. Keep us posted on your results with the shim(s).
My only complaint with the Tikka is fit. And not how the rifle is built/assembled. Somehow, the Tikka just doesn't fit me at all. I feel like I'm shouldering a bicycle or some such when I pull one up. Just all out of place. Not sure if it's an LOP or drop issue, or if it's some other...
I suspect you'll update this again with high praise for the glass and reticle. Zeiss really got it right on this one, fixing the only problem with the original Rapid-Z reticles, the incomplete crosshairs. Having a solid reticle that is visible in low light makes this setup a game-taker, now...
Gerry's got a great point about the 8x57. I have one in a Remington 700 Classic, and I love it. I shoot 180gr Nosler BTs, but you could back down to 150gr soft-points for lighter loads for practice, and even use those for deer and other medium game. I'd shift to the 180gr for bear/elk/moose...
Since you have the dual dovetail bases, you could also just order a set of Burris Signature rings and the offset insert kit to go with them. Cost will be around $40-45, I suspect. The cause of this is poor QC by Leupold with their base sets. I and many others have had this problem, and it is why...
For a rough estimate, subtract 100fps for every 10gr of bullet weight you add, Rodger. So a 140 should be humming along at "about 3300" and a 160 would then be leaving the tube at roughly 3100fps. That's been my experience, generally speaking, with other similar rounds slinging small caliber...
I think you're on to something with the idea of a short mag in .308cal. You could go with the WSM, SAUM, or RCM, since you handload. Just buy plenty of brass on the front end, as it's only going to get harder to get brass for these odd chamberings moving forward, I'm sure.
As to what rifle...
Okay. This is my last post, just to clear the fog on what I'm actually saying.
I'm not saying anything about stuff having to be proven in court. I'm saying that nobody, anywhere, ever, in the history of the world, has ever, in any way, shape, or form, documented a single case of debris under...
I dont want to get into a passing match. You're welcome to distrust the Walker trigger mechanism all you like. I never said there are no possible issues with the trigger. There are possible issues with every trigger. I said, and I stand by the statement, that nobody, ever, in the history of...
It's not just that I haven't found it, RR. Nobody has. Not even the prone populating the theory can demonstrate any evidence. That's the ludicrous nature of this BS theory. It has never existed except in some lawyer's imagination.
Any liberty loving citizen who chooses to stay in CT is volunteering to become a subject. I'll bet there will be a boom for towns just across the boarder in Rhode Island. Maybe even in Massachusetts.
We will have to agree to disagree on some of your points, RiverRider. But as to the debris issue, I will challenge you to find me a Walker trigger ever in the history of time in which this buildup occurred and was documented, rather than a case where this was assumed with absolutely zero proof...
I understand a 1200lb safe is different, Patrick. But the safe I linked, and many like it, are in the 400-600lb range, and three to four men can move them without much trouble. Not everyone can afford a $1000-1500 safe, regardless of how great one might be. I can tell you my $600 safe is...
I read through the document, and I've read the patent multiple times as well. I'll only say that the truth here is this document was written by a plaintiff's lawyer to specifically sway opinion against the "Walker Trigger." There are numerous leading statements and nondocumentable conclusions...
To JD's point, if you have the original 700 trigger, you can order a spring from erniethegunsmith.com or possibly others, and lighten the trigger pull properly. A competent gunsmith should be able to install the new spring and properly adjust pull and sear engagement for you. I'm not entirely...
And that price includes delivery to your house. I think it's just curbside delivery, but you only have to move it inside, not transport it across town.
Rent an appliance dolly and promise beer and pizza for several friends. Get cardboard and tape it to your floors to protect and ease rolling. Then confirm your position and move the safe where you want it. If you're putting it on a solid floor (recommended) get some wood shims like used for door...
