I'm glad it's not dovetailed. That can be a headache. I think I'll take the entire sight/ramp off as it interferes with the scope. I can see just a little of it at the bottom of the scope.
You can't go wrong with the Leupold 2.5-8x. I have one on a SC M70 in 7x57 and it just looks natural. My Rem Whelen sports a Weaver 4X with Weaver rings and mounts...that's the only thing I'm going to change out with Leupold 2-piece DD mounts and rings.
I want to take that rear sight off but...
I've had several 270's over the years and still have a pre-64 M70 and the JOC custom Tribute rifle. Both do very well with 59.5 gr of H4831 and Federal magnum primers with the 130 gr bullet be it Hornady or Nosler.
I've found for these rifles with the 150 gr bullet IMR4350 is the powder of...
I had a Weatherby Vanguard in 270 that I had to give up on. I held it like any other rifle I have and it smacked me good in the cheek with any load. I traded it.
If it were me I'd check the bedding first. It could be the stock as the barrel heats up, is pressing against the barrel at some point. Secondly, I'd check my consistency at the bench. A tighter grip that previously, check for the front/rear bags being on axis(although being off is more for...
Well, you sure have put a damper on me shooting mine for the first time when I can get back to the range. Now I'm scared!! No, not really. I have a Limbsaver slip on jobbie that I believe will fit and a Past Magnum pad to boot. I'm going to try it as is first and see how it goes. I have Nosler...
No doubt about it the 30-06 is a great cartridge and you can hunt about any thing that walks this continent but, I would rather myself have one of the 7mm rifles as the 7x57, 7mm Rem Mag or even the 7mm Weatherby as the bullet selection and B.C is usually much more varied and you can have a...
My ex-wife was terrified of any gun. I remember when she was putting up the laundry and folding my socks, etc and putting them in the drawer, suddenly there was this blood curdling yell, "There's a gun in your drawer!!" She wouldn't go near that drawer after that.
If anyone is interested in seeing Roger Biesen and Brad O'Connor and some of Biesen's work and the 375 H&H giveaway at the JOC Day in ID last month here's the link. I would have loved to have been there.

I have a JOC Custom Tribute rifle that won't shoot that good. I haven't tried 4350 with the 130 gr bullet but may soon. My load with any 130 gr bullet is 59.5 gr of H4831 and actually 48gr IMR4064 does real well. I need to get myself a chrony.
Great rifle and some fine shooting. Lookout Mr...
I've never used anything but H4831 or IMR4350 with any bullet weight. With 58 gr of H4831 and the 140 gr AB I get good accuracy but I don't know the velocity.
Oops-too late. I ordered Leupold's DD rings and 2-piece DD mounts last night. I wish Remington would get back to making quality rifles like this again but we may have to go to Fantasy Island to get that wish it appears.
Thanks again for the well wishes on the surgery. I'm ready to get 'er done.
Thanks. In looking the rifle over I was surprised it looked like it never was taken out in the field. It couldn't have been shot much as the bolt face looked pristine as did the bore. I may have lucked up for sure.
I was most pleased with it. The photos of it didn't even do it justice. I was expecting a few scratches and gauges here and there but none were visible and the scope could pass for nearly new. However, the Weaver rings and mounts must go!
I've already got some loads ready. I have Nosler's 225...
