I've had to lap several, maybe I thought those were one of them. This getting old is terrible or maybe I've got too many rifles. What I actually have on the 243 is the Talley Fixed Mount system. The DD's are good but you have to have the strength of Godzilla to turn them rings. A gunsmith told...
Good suggestions but, I don't really care for the QD mounts. The rifle comes with a Weaver 4X and Weaver mounts, which I've never liked so, they'll come off. The problem with the QD mounts I found on another rifle was trying to lap them...a real pain. :)
Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd just keep in the same vein about this rifle. I'm debating on rings and mounts and would be appreciative of any suggestions for those taking into account this caliber. I have a little of everything on other rifles like the Burris Zee rings, Talley...
Anyone shed some light on Nosler's Model 48 Heritage rifle? There's some good calibers including the 35 Whelen but in scrolling down to see the estimated delivery date each one was "Awaiting Update". I couldn't discern if they were available or not.

Got one pound...probably will need more. I'm about afraid to order any at this point as I don't know when it would get here and next week I'll be in the hospital at least 3-4 days. We've got a gun show August 16-17th and I've always lucked out getting whatever powder I need there. I even found...
Mighty purdy rifles. I was sent an email today via 3 day UPS Select. I hope it gets here by Friday at least. That will give me some time to spend with the usual cleaning and admiring and maybe even making some rounds before I have to go in for the operation Tuesday week.
I just had to take a pic of the old Nosler 140 gr Partition. Sitting around over 40 years it's time it performed! 48.5 gr of 4350 should be a good start.
I've read much about the old 7x57 and it seems first from one of the eight JOC books I acquired over the years, mostly the late 60's. If Jack liked it, it can't be that bad. :) I've got some old and new 140 Partition bullets already loaded along with the Hornady 139 and 154 gr. I'd say one of...
I'm chompin' at the bits to try her out-especially before my operation week after next. I may be laid up a while so need to do it this upcoming week...give me something to dream on while I'm in the hospital.
I'll soon have one of those the latter part of next week, hopefully. All the necessary accessories are in house now, dies, brass, bullets, etc. just waiting for it's arrival.
JD338-What mounts are those? I put the Leupold 2-piece DD mounts on my M7- 7x57 and had that scope been 1/8 " shorter in...
I use the Hornady headspace guage on all calibers I have to check shoulder set back but I'm not sure if the ones I have will fit the Whelen or not. I checked the Bushing Size chart on back of the package and don't see it listed although there are five of them in this kit. It list 30-06 and...
He was in the hospital about a week, IIRC. It was rough going for quite a while but he had to wear special shoes throughout the rest of his life. As he got older you'd never know anything had happened at all as there was no limp when he walked and he seem to glory in showing everyone his "battle...
My greatest fear was not only worrying about him going into shock but was most concerned about his bleeding to death. I stopped every few minutes and loosened the tourniquet I had made from my T-shirt and then re-tightened it and traveled on. That continued till we got to the highway and I...
Anyone know what the groove diameter is on the Remington 700's in this caliber? I'm going to order a mould and you're asked to specify the "body diameter" which I assume should be about .360" to accommodate what I think to be the .358" groove diameter of the rifle but not sure. That would cause...
Those along with two 270's, one new one 1952 model should make Jack O'Connor consider adopting me if he were alive...maybe I can coerce Bradford.
I thought I'd share this experience my younger brother and I had back around 1970.
When I lived in NC many moons ago I had scouted out an area several times for signs of Whitetail activity and found brush marks on several trees and knew they were in the area. I took my 18 year old brother with...
This information couldn't have come at a better time. Net week I'll be getting my first Whelen and have the 225 and 250 gr Partition bullets on the way as well...thanks! Now, to find similar data for cast bullets in similar weight.
