    K4 Focus

I just bought a rifle that has a Weaver K4 "Micro Trac" and so far I can't seem to get it in focus. If I focus so the reticle is sharp nothing at a distance is in focus. I've turned it in and out some eight turns to no avail. I can't seem to get both reticle and objects at 75-150 yards in focus...

    She's Home!

Dan-Thanks for remembering me. This Remington is probably the best looking one I've ever had. I recall my first one, a BDL in 7mm Mag back around 1970 or so, looked pretty good, but not like this one. I've got 25 rounds loaded with three different bullets and three different powders...RL-15, IMR...

    How Deep Should You Go?

I've got 3-1# cans of 4064 just need to jump on a couple more pounds of RL-15. The one pound I have I feel won't last too long since I use it in another caliber as well. Longrangehunter has some for sale and I'll get some from him soon.

    How Deep Should You Go?

I'm trying RL-15 and IMR 4064 first. I've read those are the two powders for any bullet weight and I just happen to have some in stock.

    How Deep Should You Go?

3.340" it is then. I was just going by old habits with other rifles. Oddly enough, however, my Sako 222 does better seated deeper with the 55 gr Berger bullet than seated to where I'd normally seat it. I think it's something like .050" from the ogive and gives 1/2" or better groups, if I do my part.

    How Deep Should You Go?

I know the manuals recommend a max OAL of 3.340" but, that seems awfully short for this bullet/rifle. I don't like to seat them any deeper than necessary as to not have the bullet jump a good distance before contacting the rifling. I may try a group of three and see how it does, nevertheless.

    How Deep Should You Go?

As some know I just recently got a Remington 700 35 Whelen. I use the Hornady Case Length Gauge and bullet comparator to determine the length I can seat a bullet and usually go with .020" deeper than the reading I get with the Case Length Gauge and Comparator. That initial reading was 2.890" to...

    She's Home!

This one sure belted me around even when I weighed more. It had a steel, crescent butt and was skinny at that. Due to the shape of the butt the weight of the rifle helped little. Had it been the shotgun style I don't think I would have ever sold it. I would have re-barreled it, however.

    She's Home!

I could handle the recoil pretty good a few years back with about any caliber...well, except the 45-90. I got some vicious bruises from that one. However, having lost 45 pounds since then and now only 140 pounds I'm a bit more recoil sensitive but I will overcome that. I can handle the 270...

    She's Home!

I checked the serial number before I bought it and thankfully it was exposed in one of the photos, to see if it was on the recall list and it wasn't. I agree Remington could do that today if they did it years ago.

    She's Home!

I have a hernia on the right side that I never got repaired. That's a long story so won't go into it other than to say it's still there but doesn't really cause any problem. I can't say it enough how I appreciate all the well wishes. There's a fine group of folks on this forum I've yet to...

    She's Home!

I took the action out because the trigger was atrocious at nearly 6 pounds and got it adjusted to a tad over 2 1/2. The two guard screws couldn't have had more than 5 in/lbs holding it together so, not knowing exactly the proper torque I adjusted both to 25 in/lbs. I sure would like to take it...

    She's Home!

I finally got it. I put some Lubriplate on the locking lugs and it went away. I had put a little oil on them but no grease. Apparently that's what they wanted.

    She's Home!

I'll probably be changing out the mounts and rings as I'm not a great fan of Weaver mounts but for the initial first outing I'll probably leave them on. Strange, I found the reticle to be a little fuzzy and adjusted it till it was sharp but now looking at objects 100-150 yard away don't appear...

    She's Home!

Thanks for the well wishes. I just want to get it done and over with so I can walk that 100 yards back and forth to the target frame again. An odd problem and one I haven't encountered yet is when you close the bolt there's a squeaky sound, more like close to the shroud. I've oiled about every...

    She's Home!

I went by the dealer today and picked up the Remington 700 Classic in the marvelous 35 Whelen. It was actually better looking than the photos on the website showed. In fact, it looks like it has barely been used at all...most pleased. The bore looked as new and so did the Weaver 4X that came...

"New" 270 gets to the range

The 270 is one of my top five favorites. I'd try 58-60 gr of H4831 with the 130 gr bullet or about 48 gr of IMR 4064. Both are classic powders for the 270 and give me good results. These were shot with the mentioned powders in a 1952 M70 270.

    Nosler Model 48 Heritage

I got this from Shawn today... "We are currently under heavy backorder on just about all of the calibers and models we offer, and our schedule has become a bit mixed up as a result of varying parts deliveries and extended runs on some of the most heavily backordered calibers—which makes it a...

    Nosler Model 48 Heritage

I can see one of these in my future. I wonder what sort of action they use with those rifles in the Heritage series. I couldn't find any info on their website.
