My Sierra 5th edition manual has a list of rifle twist in the back that says Remington has 1 in 10 twist. I will have to check my 700 to see what it is.
I have been shooting big woods deer with the 140 TSX. But have a bunch of 130 E-tips i will be working a load up for this spring. I have found the mono's to be very meat friendly and have never had to do much of a tracking job, 50 yards was the longest.
Anyone else having problems getting the load data section [manual] to work. When I bring up a cartridge I get the lightest weight bullet info but then it will not switch to other weight bullets.
4451 and 4955 would be my choices. In the Rl group R16 for temp stability and R-26 for speed. I use 26 in my 243 with 95 gr. Partitions. I have found 26 to be pretty good in the temp stability area in my 243 and 300 SAUM and RUM.
I do not see the problem. It is a gun that takes up space in your safe that you do not shoot that you did not buy, and as you said would need to be modified for you to use. Trade it and get something you want and will use.
I would start with R-26 and 95 or 100 gr. Partitions. 4350 would be my second choice. If thinking lead free the 90gr. E-tip would be a good one and then the 80 gr. TTSX. I would also consider 90 AB and the 95 BT.
My 243s really like R-26 with the Partitions.
I also have a bunch of 85 gr...
I use a wet cloth that I keep in ice water. I just squeeze the water out and put the damp cloth on the barrel. It is quick and easy. I do this between groups of 3 or 4 not each shot.

Why not just load 160, 180 or 185 in the 338. They can be loaded fro 30-30 levels to 300 mag levels. Shoot great kick little and cost is not a factor.
If you really want a 300 mag you can get a TC compass for 350, the cost of a barrel.
I like lite rifles and shoot them well, lots of practice. I have humped up and down the mountains for many years and lite is always better than heavy IMO.
" blaze orange hunting vest which is required by law in all states." This is not true but but a good idea.
