All I've read about this is that the firearms industry is enjoying profits never realized before. They've added production lines and hired more employees to handle the increased demand. Hate to say it but this admin has actually helped a portion of industry. Albeit, mistakenly so but I'll give...
My first centerfire rifle was a Rem Model 78 in .270Win which I bought when I was promoted to E-4 back in 1984. It has harvested a pile of deer, a few black bear, a dozen or so coyotes and a bull moose. Easily shoots MOA or better with a variety of commercial ammo and handloads. My son took his...
Looks like it's shaping up nicely! Sounds like a boat full of pure power. Surely there's another scope you can throw on that beauty for load development. Why challenge yourself?
Man, I hope you get that dialed in. Tough choices in your future picking between this and your Alaskan.
The AB will definitely stand up to that high velocity better than the BTs. I keep the 130gr BT velocity right at or just under 3000fps in the .270s I load for and have found them to be more in line with the expansion/trauma levels I'm hoping to attain against deer and black bear. We dont shoot...
I use Gunbot to search for components. I saw an update the other day for 5lb jugs of RL-22 at Powder Valley that was 4 minutes old. I ordered a 5lb jug and a 1 lb jug of RL-15 immediately. I then texted a friend who logged in and Gunbot's "just added"'time was 8 minutes ago. He ordered some...
I have used both variations in the same rifle. Worked up both to the same charge weight and had equivalent velocity and accuracy. Indistinguishable.
Good luck finding either version. Once it hits the shelves it disappears fast.
If the rifles had no sentimental value to me, I would sell the 7mmRM, and two of the three from your .270 and 30-06s and build a custom 280AI from the one you didn't sell.
I would find her a Hawkeye chambered in 358win and call it a day. I agree that she can handle any elk, moose or black bear with her 7mm-08 but if she wants another rifle, I won't be the person to talk her out of it. ;-)
Just added to my addiction with 200 .277 150gr PT and .308 180gr PT. Whenever I think I have enough I find something else that I can improve my situation.
The ideal deer cartridge/bullet combo in my eyes. Thank your son for the effort and the upload. Sounds like he's set for some time with that combo. Well, until he can start buying his own rifles and then he'll be woefully equipped and must buy several more rifles!!
In the past two months I have received 300rds of 158gr .357 JHP, 200rds of 168gr .308 BT, 200 rds of 180gr .308 BT, 150 rds of 150gr 7mm BT, 150rds of 160gr 7mm PT and 400rds of 55gr .224 BT from SPS. That satisfies a few cartridges for a while.
I have a Viper and feel the NEW Monarchs are a step above the Vipers. The Viper is comparable to the older Monarchs. I have access to both flavors of the Nikon and it looks like they have made an effort to up their capabilities in all of their products akin to what Leupold has done with their...
