Digging up an old thread. I have a bag of Win brass with these oblong holes. Can anyone recommend a uniforming tool to fix? They definitely have brass tags hanging inside the case and I was going to get a Sinclair deburring tool to remove, but as far as fixing the uniformity of the flash hole...
I have... and I don't. All I used to burn in my previous 25-06 was Retumbo and 120 Partitons. I did a lot of work with RL26 with my present 25-06,and never really settled on anything I was happy with mostly because of being overly cautious being that I only have QL data to work with. Then one...
I've gotten pretty interested in looking at rifle suppressors recently and was searching for a good elk capable caliber that I could run with a real short barrel and still be efficient. My search brought me to the 338 Federal. This looks like a pretty neat cartridge. I've always shot 308 caliber...
ElmerThud you reports are what inspired me to try this load. I too have a 22" (22.5") barrel. I've done a bunch of work with RL26 with the Accubond, but thought I'd give a more readily available powder a try. Now I'm not sure how available it is!
Just got back from the range and got 2936FPS...
No offense to anyone, but doesn't the book max for the 25-06, 110 AB, with IMR4831 seem a bit light? 51 gr, they list 52 gr for the 115 NBT in the same manual, Hogdon lists 53 with a 117gr bullet, and Hornady 52.8gr with a 110 interbond. I know, different components and all, but what do you think?
Thanks I'll seat a bit deeper. I did try 63.8 and it shot about the same. These will be my last 5 bullets until my order comes in. Turns out reloading supplies are still hard to get!
I did the ladder workup to pick the load; 63.6 and 63.8 were velocity dups so I went with 63.7. However, when I shot it again through a chrono I was 66fps lower than before, but with a completely clean, cold barrel, so who knows.
I did kind of a seating depth work up too but my jumps were...
I don't claim to be a good shooter, I'm just a hunter. But what do you think about this 5 shot group?
I think it's 3 stacked in one hole, 2 in the other. The thrown shot could just be one, the target may have had a little bend, but I don't think so all others made nice .308 bullet holes...
Can anyone show me how Quickload compares to book data for this combo?
180 Accubonds
Reloder 17
300 WSM
24.4" barrel length
I hit 3015 at book max of 64, with a clean, cold barrel
Thanks all
