I didn’t like the Grip Rite puller. I have had surgery on both wrist and some arthritis in my hands and on heavy crimps I can’t squeeze the handles hard enough to keep a grip on the bullet when I started pulling with the press. I much prefer the kinetic hammer method.
Picked up the new rifle from the FFL this morning. The weight and barrel length balance beautifully for me when shouldered. Going to keep the barrel length at 26 inches with the Varmit contour and go with the 1:10 twist for the 308. Going to call the gunsmith next week and finalize the details.

Decision 2025 is in !!!
After consideration and some research I have made a barrel decision. Going with a 26 inch Varmit contour since that is what the rifle currently has and a 1:10 twist. After Guy’s comment I went to the safe and pulled a few #1’s and lined them up for a look. The 26 in...
Just picked up a Ruger #1 V Stainless/Laminated in 204 Ruger. I purchased it with plans of replacing the barrel with a 308 . Going to keep the varmit profile. Question is barrel length and twist, plan on shooting 150-180 grain bullets. Not going suppressed so I don’t need a short barrel and...
Most of my rifles are for hunting so 50 rounds or less, plus if I am low on ammo it forces me to use a different gun. Also I don’t want to leave a bunch of loaded ammo for my Wife to deal with if I pass suddenly she will have enough on her plate with all of my guns.
I saw LR Magnum bricks for $89 on line several times over the last few weeks. It’s honestly cheaper for me to order several bricks on line and pay the fees than it is for me to drive my truck around looking for primers. I live extra rural so it’s 100 miles to the closest Cabela’s.
All this 44 mag talk made me go out and get a new can of H110 so I can feed my 44 Mag Contender over the summer. Will be easier on the old hands than the 35 Remington.
I plan on buying a Ruger #1 in 308. Just need to save a few more dollars. Have seen a few on Gunbroker lately that were out of my price range. They had a 1967 #1B that went for over 5k.
