Rifles that Need to be Hunted (or loads developed for) in 2025

I have quite a few that need hunted with or shot. I did at least manage to scope them. A lot I have not even fired. Ruger #1 25-06 280 6mm 30-06 6.5 Creed 77 RSI 275 Rigby 308 1885 Low Wall 6.5 Creed Henry Longranger 243 I am sure there are more if I open the safes and look.

question on neck bulge 30-06: RESOLVED

That’s exactly what I did when I pulled some old loads in my 243 when I was working a new load. Ground the pin down and ordered a replacement pin.

    Hornady Cam lock puller

I didn’t like the Grip Rite puller. I have had surgery on both wrist and some arthritis in my hands and on heavy crimps I can’t squeeze the handles hard enough to keep a grip on the bullet when I started pulling with the press. I much prefer the kinetic hammer method.

    Barrel spec recommendations

Picked up the new rifle from the FFL this morning. The weight and barrel length balance beautifully for me when shouldered. Going to keep the barrel length at 26 inches with the Varmit contour and go with the 1:10 twist for the 308. Going to call the gunsmith next week and finalize the details.

The #1 RSI is my favorite especially the stainless model. I have a few that I hunt with.

    Barrel spec recommendations

Decision 2025 is in !!! After consideration and some research I have made a barrel decision. Going with a 26 inch Varmit contour since that is what the rifle currently has and a 1:10 twist. After Guy’s comment I went to the safe and pulled a few #1’s and lined them up for a look. The 26 in...

    Barrel spec recommendations

Just picked up a Ruger #1 V Stainless/Laminated in 204 Ruger. I purchased it with plans of replacing the barrel with a 308 . Going to keep the varmit profile. Question is barrel length and twist, plan on shooting 150-180 grain bullets. Not going suppressed so I don’t need a short barrel and...

Big Game Rifles & Loaded Rounds ?

Most of my rifles are for hunting so 50 rounds or less, plus if I am low on ammo it forces me to use a different gun. Also I don’t want to leave a bunch of loaded ammo for my Wife to deal with if I pass suddenly she will have enough on her plate with all of my guns.

    Nice score tonight!!

I saw LR Magnum bricks for $89 on line several times over the last few weeks. It’s honestly cheaper for me to order several bricks on line and pay the fees than it is for me to drive my truck around looking for primers. I live extra rural so it’s 100 miles to the closest Cabela’s.

    44 mag

All this 44 mag talk made me go out and get a new can of H110 so I can feed my 44 Mag Contender over the summer. Will be easier on the old hands than the 35 Remington.

Any plans for a new rifle in 2025?

I plan on buying a Ruger #1 in 308. Just need to save a few more dollars. Have seen a few on Gunbroker lately that were out of my price range. They had a 1967 #1B that went for over 5k.

    New Thumper

Already have the 280 covered. Picked up a NIB #1B back in 2020. Still haven’t gotten around to shooting it yet.
