    Long Range Hunting

Moreloader, I agree with you up to a point. I will have to say that the shooters I have seen go really long in the field, including myself, had the equipment and were fully capable of using it. However, "100% lethality"? Man, I don't know about others but I have been known to miss...

Accubond or Partition for Elk out of the 270 WSM?

I haven't taken an Elk with an Accubond but I can assure you that a Partition works wonders in a .270 Winchester. Elk are big tough animals and can get into some really rough places if you don't get them down quick. I don't see any way the Accubond can out perform the Partition for this though...

    Need a long range bullet

I don't want to get into a pissing contest over long range shooting but there are many people who make long shots on a regular basis. If you can't or don't want to take a long shot just don't. However, don't kid yourself about those shots not being possible or being irresponsible just belong...

    Need a long range bullet

Actually, 400-500 is not THAT far. Trajectory way out there is only part of the problem, energy delivery is something else. A heavy for caliber bullet retains velocity better and thus hits harder when it arrives on target. A 140 Accubond might be your best choice in a 270 Winchester. I...

    Primers?

Cal, if you are happy with the Remington primers by all means use them. There is certainly nothing wrong with them. Federals are so available in my area that I built most of my loads around them and just haven't seen any reason to change. When changing primers or any other component of a load...

    Primers?

Understand, Federal makes a match primer in both standard large rifle and magnum large rifle. Use the one appropriate to your caliber.

    Primers?

I tend to favor Federal 210M and 215M for most applications. I have had no problems.

    Nikon

Nothing against a Nikon scope but a friend had one for sale recently and had a hard time selling it. He later sold a similiar Leupold the day he put it up for sale. In my part of the country the Leos sell used much better than any other brand. Just a consideration.

    7mm ultramag

I have never fired a factory loaded catridge through my 7mm Ultra Mag but I usually run my loads to the max in this catridge and have reloaded five times without any problems with loose primer pockets. I am using Retumbo with 160 acccubonds at 3400fps and see no excess pressure signs at all...

    7mm ultra mag

94.0 grs of Retumbo is my load as well. Clocks 3375 - 3400 in my barrel with a 160 Accubond and shoots minute of angle even way out there. Folks, I have used a lot of rifles and calibers over the years but this thing is the best long range killer I have ever gotten my hands on. Hits very...

    A little new to hunting

Yes, a 30-06 can and has "done it all".

What is your favorite caliber for hunting?

It would be a tie between my .338 and my .375. Take Africa out ot consideration and I would take the .338.

    A little new to hunting

I think you will find a .338 Win Mag very useful in Alaska. (or anywhere else) It is sort of Alaska's version of the 30-06 in terms of being a jack of all trades. If you handload the caliber is even more versitile. If I could only have one rifle it would definitely be a .338 of some make and...

    Sendero barrel on 700 lss

My advice would be to have Hart do the work when you purchase the barrel. They know what they are doing.

    RETUMBO powder

I have gotten outstanding accuracy and velocity with Retumbo in my 7 Ultra using both 150 Ballistic Tips and the 160 Accubond. Performance with the 160 Accubond on game has been flawless.

    7mm ultra mag

If you can get it try Retumbo. I shoot a 7 Ultra and can get 3400 from a 26 in. barrel using it. Accuracy is outstanding with a 160 Accubond or 150 Ballistic Tip.

    7mm mag scope for hunting?

I use a 6.5x20x40 Leupold w/target turrets on a 7mm Ultra Mag for hunting in an area where shots are almost certain to be very long and it works fine. Understand you will need a laser rangefinder and a good ballistics program to take advantage of it. That said, I can't imagine a normal hunting...

    Too big

I think a .270 Winchester is an excellent caliber for a young or beginning hunter or a seasoned pro for that matter. With a 130gr bullet recoil is minimal and the 130 Partition is a killer out of all proportion to its size. If the youth in question ever gets to the point in his hunting career...

What is your favorite caliber for hunting?

Right now it is a .338 Win. Mag. If I could only have one this would be it. Mine is a second generation Model 70 Classic Super Grade and it shoots Ballistic Tips, Accubonds, and Partitions of all weights very very well. Latest kills with it were two Whitetail does taken with 200gr Ballistic...

    7mm Rem Ultra Mag loads

I think you're gonna be very happy with the results. If you are really looking to reach out there take a careful look at the long range mount. Without it a 1 inch scope can run out of adjustment room. I'm just not sure how far you can get without it. By the way, I usually use cross sticks...
