I’m not a big guy by any means, and I’ll be 66 this fall.
I pretty much only hunt northeast whitetails. I have never hunted Hogs however so I can’t comment on them.
My Dad had a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem when we were growing up. Mom gave it to him for a wedding present. So it was bought new in 1958...
I shoot both bullets as well, however not 270, and not Sauer.
I load both, and shoot them out of a Tikka 308. The Accubonds, 150 grain, were very easy to develop a load for using Varget.
I tried Varget with the 130 grain ttsx and could not get a consistent load. However I did get a very nice...
I’m basically hunting whitetails deer, so my experience is different than most of yours, but I shoot three calibers, 30-30, 308 Win., and 30-06.
I can hunt anything in N. America with these three.
I’ve throughly enjoyed the African adventures by Vince and Salmonchaser, and others, and I’m...
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences!
I’ll never make it to Africa, but I’ve enjoyed both your adventures.
The pictures and stories helped make if feel like we were along for the ride.
Thanks Men!
I agree with shooting to Accubonds. I have really loved this bullet for hunting and have had nothing but good experiences with it.
I’ve taken most of my deer with the 150 grain Accubond either in 30-06 or 308 Win.
I’ve been hunting with my 308 mostly, lately, and I’ve taken a Doe, three years...
^^^^
I agree 100%.
I tried a barrel mounted peep from Skinner, (who make terrific products) and did not see it as well as my Williams attached to the receiver of my rifle.
Now if Skinner would only make a receiver sight for my 94….
Skinner sights are extremely well made, and the company is awesome as well.
They will go out of their way to help you and make sure you’re happy with their products.
I tried a barrel mounted peep on my 94 and unfortunately I had trouble seeing through it at that distance.
The Williams on the...
I fortunately have the hood for my front sight, but to be honest it does show in the sight picture when aiming.
You may find that while it does protect the front sight, it is easier to acquire your target without it.
I shoot my 94 with peep sights often.
I believe peeps help a lot and make a difference over buckhorn sights.
As for targets, I usually just use those Splatterburst targets. For up close 25 & 50 yards I use a 6” target on a 8.5x11” sheet of paper, and at 100 or more I use a 12” Splatterburst...
I recently saw a post on another site that was discussing load development.
This article came up, and it is interesting in that we all have our ways to find our accuracy...
Respectfully I have the Williams Foolproof sight on my 94, and in my experience I would not say it’s cheaply made.
There is a Williams 5D sight which is about $30-40 less expensive that may be more in the realm of cheaply made, but I’ve no experience with that.
I’ve had my receiver sight on my...
This is what I use.
Caldwell not sure the name just their shooting bags.
I’ve had them for years, and they work well for me.
The only problem I’ve had with them is one winter I had them in my garage and some mice eat a hole in the bottom corner of the large front bag.
Had to sew it shut as you...
I have a Williams fool proof sight on my 1980 model 94.
I’m not sure if the difference in the two years would allow you to use this set up on your rifle or not, but I’m really happy with how these sights work for me.
I didn’t have to change or alter my front sight either.
I use different sized...
