Little late to this party but I have some experience with the 140AB and H4831SC. My Rem in .270Win shoots great with 58.0gr @ 2850fps. Sound familiar? I've tried to hit 2900+fps for a few years now and haven't been able to find an accurate load whenever I do reach that plateau. With the H4831...
Looks like you've stumbled into some very nice alternative loads. Sometimes you can make good from a bad situation.
The TSXs will make a good "pelt" round!
It seems like half the commercially loaded ammo I've shot recently has left extractor marks. The only types which haven't has been ammo for cartridges which there is a known concern with older rifles and their pressure capabilities.
As mentioned, try to avoid the heat.
Was the thinking the same. I hadn't worked with our 25-06 in over 8 years. Re-did loads with it last year and man it really got me thinking. I just don't know what it would replace, the .270, 257Bob or 7mm-08? It's not a .308 bore or larger replacement IMO but any non-magnum under that has...
I've seen you work successfully through some trying load ordeals. I have faith you can make this beauty sing in tune in no time. Keep us up to date on this one.
I bought some Superperformance purely for heavy bullets in my 22-250 and .223 loads. I was very surprised to see the lack of load data available for this newer powder. S
The 110gr ABs and 115gr PTs should rock in your 257AI. I am using the AB in my Bob, not AI'd, and they work fine.
I have loaded the 115gr BTs and the ABs in 25-06 and they have performed great as well. There's nothing wrong with a good shooting load using 100gr but I prefer the heavier bullets...

I held off on some projects this summer due to the furlough from Sequestration. It hit me pretty hard so I held onto my fun money so that I didn't leave myself short for the important stuff. I also made an impulse buy on a NIB S&W 4" Model 19-3 right before the furlough announcement.
So my...
Looks like its time to make sure your knives are sharp because your range work is done. I wouldn't hesitate to use those SGKs. They always impress me with their accuracy but they made me rethink my previous thoughts on their stoutness. Albeit, my results were from a 358Win but 200fps isn't that...
These groups look very similar to my struggles with my 257Roberts M70 Fwt. It took too many load work ups with 5 different powders and 6 different bullets of various weights before I found a winning combo. Rifle always showed potential but it always slipped up as things got promising. Keep at...
I've been using 58.0gr of H4831 for some time with the 140gr AB. My velocity isn't high at 2875fps but accuracy and terminal performance has been great. I tried RL-19 with both the 140gr AB & PT but in both cases my lower loads worked best. I used 54.0 -56.0gr in .5g increments with top velocity...
I believe Leupold has upgraded the recent version of the VX-2 to remain competitive at its price point. I havent compared this newer version but have experience with their original configuration and was underwhelmed to say the least. The newer version has good reviews but I don't trust the word...
Great to see you connecting with your Grandson so well. Shooting sports are an excellent pursuit to foster a deeper realationship with the young. Not only does it develop responsibility and respect, it can be enjoyed and mastered by anyone regardless of athletic ability and gender. It's also...

That is a very enviable velocity I will never see that out of my 20" tubed Fwt though.
I have not tried Hunter or Magnum with the 257Roberts.
I have experienced decent results using 48.0gr of RL-19 @ 3025fps and 47.5gr of RL-22 @ 2950fps. Best results with the 110gr AB though is with 45.0gr...
