In my 28N I’m going to use the 175 PT. We have on occasion shot cow elk at less then 50 yds while in the timber and brush. Usually more controlled then that and catch them coming out of the timber where either would work just fine.
So real ! When a teenager I sandblasted in the family business. No hearing protection. Shooting , snowmobiles, chainsaws and power tools etc….
Now going on 38 years in paper mills even with ear plugs, I have permanent hearing loss.
I use hearing aids most of the time and hearing protection...
Great Conversation going.
My two Sako 85 Finnlights ( 300WSM & 243W ) both carry Swarovski Z5 3x18, light wt ,mtn hunting rifles.
I have 3 Ridglines in med/long range cartridges that have a Zeiss V6 and two V4s. The 6.5x284 w/ the V6 is my most carried rifle last 6 years.
Various other rifles...
I just picked up some 7MM 175gn PT for actually a good price. Thank you Nosler.
Putting together an Elk load for my 28 Nosler. My first Elk was with a 7MM RMag back in ‘82. I’ve watched my son put one on the ground with his 28 and both Elk were bang flop. That high SD with this PT should...
I have a few of the Diamondbacks HPs but not at that power. For the $ they are worthy. They won’t compare to higher end scopes, but like I stated - in their price point, they are ok. I have not had a failure.
Rimfire, up to .243 W.
When I purchased mine I remember Vortex saying it was same...
I've been a long time user of RL17 in my 270 and 300 WSMs - I switched to RL26 but that is not available anymore.
I'm going to try RL16 and Vihtavouri powders.
Good luck
This has got mind spinning on my Sav 99 - 300 Sav. I have a VXII 3x9x40 sitting on top. I’ve got plenty of factory CoreLokt 150 boxes but would like to load up something in the 125gn.
I think it’s pretty amazing that we see the Sav 99 still popping up in the forum every once in a while...
As all the responses above are loud and clear ! Load up and go Elk hunting. My first elk was a 5pt with a 7Rem Mag and 175gn Core-Lokts. Bang flop. I presently shoot a 28N but that’s just a touch more fps than the King of 7’s. I load 160AB or the 175PT. I haven’t hunted with it yet but...
Since the Flu A hit our family this Christmas, it was pretty quiet around here. My son and I slipped out Christmas morning looking for sheds or at least see if any have started dropping.
What we found in our part of Idaho, was 4 bull Moose all packing their “bone”.
3 Whitetail … make that 4...
Yes the 28N is a rather high velocity round. Stay off the shoulder inside 250 yds and it will work for you. I too have the same load / ammo.
Let me clarify - If it’s a bull tag , use the preferred bullet. Bulls don’t usually stand and pose presenting the “perfect” shot. Cow tag, go enjoy...
Yep - Lots of Turkeys here in the yard. Our canyon is loaded with them ! Very entertaining!
I’m actually going to take one this spring for my first time, and try cooking it or make jerky. I’ll probably use an arrow. Been wading thru turkeys for over 40 years and just never had the desire to...

Brings back memories. Must be about18 years ago now. We had a Gun Club before it was shut down here in Lewiston. My son started at 12 yrs old on the Skeet field. By 14 he took the Skeet Jrs Trophy home that year. I took the Skeet Doubles home. We always enjoyed Wed, Sat and Sunday...
