This thread made me remember I have a case of H110 someone gave to me cause they have no use for it. It’s the old style containers. Probably should crack it open and see if it’s any good. ;)
Just my opinion but I disregard max charges listed mostly and use my chronograph to tell me what my gun, lot of powder and bullets are doing. I do pay attention to max speeds and load accordingly. Looks like your case either has more volume capacity or a tighter chamber. I wouldn’t sweat it and...
Just my thoughts, and mind you, I like longer bullets, but the 280 AI would be limited in mag space as well. The 7x57 and family fits excellent and is made for the action. A short bullet cartridge like a Whelen or similar would probably be okay.
The 280 AI would probably be fine, since the...
19 and H4831 have always been similar for me Dan. Used to use a lot of it in my 338’s. Pretty good powder for a 270 I’d think. At least as good as 5-10 others I can think of..
I’m not expert in Mausers but converting them to other cartridges other than x57 and similar head size brings up a lot of work. They were made to feed the 8x57 and 7x57 perfectly so when you change case sizes like that you really encounter a lot of work to make them fit. And the magazine space...
RL15 and Varget were always pretty good with the 250/260 class bullets in a 375. 15 would do 2900 in most decent barrels. LVR/CFE223 seem like they’d be worth a shot as well.
I did similar years ago. Basically loaded 375 H&H and 300 Wby for a close friend who lived in Idaho when I lived in Virginia. I sent him test loads with a few different charges of the most accurate powders under 260 PTs for the 375 and 180 BTs for the 300.
My buddy got the loads and shot them...
Cool old boxes.
As to a vibratory cleaner setting off a round, I’m sure it’s happened but I can’t imagine a rounds tip having enough momentum to hammer a primer. Guess it’s possible. I dump them in by the 100 for 223 that is going into ARs since the lube can cause grief in cold weather.
I think the reason you didn’t see much difference from 71.7 and 72 is in the overall capacity of the case you’re less than about 1/2% probably even less. I’d incrementally keep creeping up in .5 grain increments. Your accuracy looks pretty good to me, so creeping up in charge weight should get...
For me it’s finding the charge that’s happy with a certain bullet weight. My neck tension may help since I do use a lot of bushing dies or Mandrels to keep that consistent. Also great brass helps a lot since it is consistent from shot to shot. Certain powders really shine in certain cases as...
