    Speer deep curl?

I used some 140gr Gold Dots in my first 6.5 CM loads, I think they are a similar bullet. Granted, I didn't have a lot of time for load development, but I wasn't particularly impressed with their accuracy or results on deer. They seemed to pass thru without dumping much energy, so if you like to...

    Lever Gun Considerations

Not if you think you'll want a scope on it at some point. If that's the case, a Marlin, Henry, Browning, or Savage makes more sense.

    Lever Gun Considerations

I haven't personally loaded it this way, but the 45-70 can be loaded "from mild to wild." Go take a look at the load data and you will see what I mean. The trapdoor-level loads are pretty tame, but would still be plenty effective for game.

    Best targets for open sights?

I just thought of something that I'm going to try next time. I have something called an "Eye Pal" that I use when I shoot my pistols. Basically, it's a type of peep sight which you put on your glasses to enhance your focal length. The kit has one for rifle and one for pistol, and I've only ever...

    Best targets for open sights?

I'm curious to see what others have to say. This is something I deal with when shooting my muzzleloaders. I usually print my own targets at home, and what seems to work best is something with a 4-6" red or green bull, and then using a 6 o'clock hold on it, just setting that bull on top of the...

    Lose of our son.

I am so very, very sorry for your loss. I know the feeling, having lost my youngest son to suicide in November 2020 at age 23. I will be praying for your family, and please feel free to reach out if you want to talk. God bless, my friend.

    6.5 CM 130gr bullet test, Part 1 - Setup

FWIW, I used the 129gr SST load to take 2 deer last fall: A 6pt and a button buck. Both shots were short, only about 30 yards or so (the property is heavily wooded) and taken within an hour or so of each other. Both were the classic behind-the-shoulder broadside shot. The button buck was first...

    Whitetail bullet options

Welcome. While you are checking out deer bullets, don't overlook the Hornady SST. It's their version of the Nosler BT. I've used both with good success. Brian

What powders should I look to first?

Don't overlook Accurate #9. Just slightly faster burn rate than H110. Gives excellent results in my warm 45 Colt rifle loads.

    Lever rifle fun ......

I shoot warm loads in my Henry 45 Colt rifle. 240gr Hornady XTP Mag or 250gr XTP at a little over 1700 fps, using Accurate #9. Pretty nice deer load in the woods.
