    30-06 --Tried and True

My first deer rifle was a Rem 760 30-06 that I bought in high school working summers saving some money. It was the first rifle that I started reloading for. I traded it off only because my unlearned self-thought a bolt action was what was needed. Over the years I have owned different ones. My...

6 mm Br Shilen barrel that I am getting ready to mount , should I choose Lapua, Peterson or Alpha brass? Savage Target action if relevant.

Have had three 6br rifles and used Lapua and Norma brass. Both work well. You will get many loading from each brand as the 6br lends itself to long case life.

Public Land Fall Longbeard/Tom Hunting Tips & Advice

Yeah, I forgot to mention that IF you can bust up a flock sit right there and start calling using the kee kee and loud yelps. Mouth calls are the easiest to make the kee kee on, but a slate can be used just need to practice with each. Younger birds are always the easiest to call in.

Public Land Fall Longbeard/Tom Hunting Tips & Advice

Fall turkey hunting whether gobblers or hens involves a lot of walking and calling. Walking looking for fresh scratching as you call periodically. Make sure to determine the direction the scratching is going. Keep easing along stopping, calling listening. Gobblers are harder to hunt in the fall...

    22in barrel 1in12 twist bullet weights ?

Another thing to do to is make sure your empty brass after FL sizing, trimming will cycle thru your action and chamber without any issues. Just start the empty into the chamber then close the bolt onto it doing so with each piece. I use a FL die for my 35 Rem Mod 760 all the time without any...

    22in barrel 1in12 twist bullet weights ?

Try the FL size die and if you are not satisfied then use the small base. We all have our favorites but personally I find that 150gr bullets work well in the 308 for deer and use them more often than 165gr in my 30-06 as well. Both good. Let the rifle show you which it groups best. Go from...

    Throat erosion

Unless you are shooting hundreds of rounds per year, your 308 will last years. Most hunters rarely shoot out a barrel.

    22in barrel 1in12 twist bullet weights ?

Yes, it was a standard RCBS FL size die. I have also loaded for a Rem 742 30-06 semi-auto using same die type without any problems. As for Varget in your BAR 308 just start low and work up. If you want to get a better c.o.l. get one of Hornady's curved gauges that will allow you to get a better...

    Adventure at Big Water Safari

Great write up and had me going right along with you. Terrible about the mix up on guns and luggage but great that being with other handgun hunters paid off. Thanks for sharing your hunt with us.

    22in barrel 1in12 twist bullet weights ?

Not a 308Win but I have loaded for a friend's BAR 30-06 using Sierra 180gr GameKing and H4895 without any problems of stability. Don't know the twist in that rifle nor if the same twist is used for 308 or 30-06. Used a full-length size die and each piece of brass fed and cycled perfectly. He...

    270 Win RL26 advice

In my Rem 700 with 24 in Douglas barrel I load 59.5grs RL26 150gr Nosler BT Fed 210 primer gives 3045FPS. Could go to 60.5 grs but didn't see the need. 59.5grs gives .5835 in group and no pressure problems. Works for me. Dan.

    What recoil pad?

Have both. Replaced the Limb Saver that deteriorated with another Limb Saver on my Rem 700 CDL 35 Whelen and am well pleased with it. Had a Pachmyer put on my 30-06 and it works well also. Both good.

    Muzzleloading 12 gauge

There is a ton of info on the Traditional Muzzle Loading Forum. As for shooting round balls thru a smooth bore most do use a patch you just try different thickness to see which combination gives best accuracy. If you plan on shooing round balls in this gun I would recommend not thru that full...

    Muzzleloading 12 gauge

Had a Navy Arms T&T double barrel muzzleloader shotgun back in the 80s. I used 90grs of Pyrodex , 1 1/4 oz of shot. Powder first, over powder card, cushion wad, shot then thin overshot card. Patterned descent killed one nice gobbler at about 32 yds. Stock didn't fit me really well so traded it...

    What would you do?

Well, on a similar note, I pulled a real boner this morning. Loaded up some for a ladder test in that CVA Cascade Heavy Varmint. Had them properly marked on my data sheet. Got the bright idea that I would load all of them up in the ten round magazine to check function while recording the...
