    ISO: 7mm (7x57) barrel for 98 Mauser

140 Accubonds and ballistic tips maybe try some 150s. If 175 work I may take some to Africa just to see what they will do

    Jet Sled

This is what I think about when I hear Jet Sled. 200 horse power 4 inches of water. File too big I’ll try again.

    Getting older/different shooting priorities

How could you not revel in Gods majesty sitting on a rock looking at this? Deer or elk is secondary, making the shot academic compared to the experience.

    ISO: 7mm (7x57) barrel for 98 Mauser

Time lines sure seem to have increased and given my recent history with gunsmiths and barrels I didn’t expect to have my 7x57 back from Pac Nor before Christmas. Sent it there mid June. The barrel has been installed just waiting on gunsmiths installation of the 1/4 rib and blueing. All that to...

    Getting older/different shooting priorities

So this morning I took the dogs for a one mile walk from the house. They are getting old fast pushing 15 years. Then headed for my morning out and back 6 miler with right at 1000 ft. Elevation gain. First day in weeks I wanted to push that hard with the smoke we’ve had. Many days the air quality...

    Throat erosion

Having pulled our trailer all over the southwest this is the perfect analogy. We’ve traveled in and out of Arizona by every possible route. I am completely confounded by how bad an Arizona road is and then you hit the state line, pick one, and boom, nice smooth ride.

    Browning A-Bolt

I recently tried 4064 velocity was in the high 24s with 300 grain swift A frames. I have one more test load but my guess is it will just crack 2500 fps. Not that 300 gr. At 2500 isn’t sufficient. I’m also working with H4350 still about 2gr. Below max and getting mid to high 2500s. I also have a...

    Throat erosion

I shot my duty 308s realistically once a week, any where from 5 to typically not more than 20 rounds in a session. Once a year I would go to training and shoot 1,000 rounds. The Remington 700 went 4000 rounds. Accuracy international well over 5000, HS precision had about 5000 and I know was...

6mm Rem 700 Varmint Special - Trial and Error

That looks very good and since you called Maggie’s drawers on the high shot I sure think you have a rifle that’ll shoot.

    30-06 --Tried and True

Shot an awful lot of stuff with the old war horse. Hunted from the Brooks range to Arizona and over to South Dakota, including stops in Montana and Wyoming with one. Had mine since 1968 bought with money bucking hay and combining wheat for summer work. Haven’t had it out of the safe in almost a...

Welcome aboard. I have been loading 49.5 grains of reloading 17, gets me right at 60psi I’m getting 2925 with the 140 accubonds and Ballistic tips. Don’t recall what speed I got with the 140ttsx, but I’m sure with a 120 at that pressure she will be screaming.

    Sako L46 Riihimaki .222

What amazes me about the old 222 is how popular it was with native hunters in Alaska. As a six year old in 1960 I remember chancing upon a guy gutting a moose along the Cheena river. He waived us over. He had been broken down for a few days and needed a lift. He shot that moose with a 222. Andy...

Welcome aboard Koz. You’ll find a lot of love for the 45/70 around here. I carried a Marlin guide gun for 20 years in Alaska, a fantastic cartridge. While I am pretty finicky in developing loads for my rifles I only had two for the 45/70. One used 400 grain Barnes “busters” the other a 300 gr...
