Thanks for the input. It's going to be a challenge but I am looking forward to it and looking forward to having a great season in general. I've already picked out some oak abundant land to target so we'll see what the results are!
That's unfortunate. They are missing out on a great opportunity to own some of the finest hand-fitted bespoke rifles and shotguns in the world. These pieces do get imported here into the US but the importers hike the prices 200% - 300%.
All great advice here. For at least the early season, I won't be taking the "bust up" and kee-kee approach and will try to hunt mature birds more like big game using slow lazy gobbler yelps sparsely. I need to get out and scout prior to opening day. The vegetation is thick, weather is hot, so...
Haven't done any hunting in these destinations myself and based on your name it seems you may be from Belgium or France.
Spain, Canada, and Scotland would be the best fit from a diverse species opportunity perspective and as a cultural match for you.
It's shotgun here only. I don't have a 16ga, only 10, 12 and .410. I'll probably carry the 10 for the love of it and then switch to a 12 single shot when I need something lighter.
Got it on the mast, look for islands of it, if it's everywhere, they'll be scattered. I assume the edges of...
I am looking for some advice from experienced hunters on this forum on how to hunt longbeards in the fall on public land east of the Mississippi river. I have heard this is an especially difficult hunt.
I'd like to use this as an educational experience to build a solid woodsmanship foundation...
I decided to voluntarily delete a recent thread that I had posted (No, nobody PM'd me or asked me to delete it if you are wondering). Upon further reflection, it struck me that the content of the thread was highly counterproductive not just in terms of its content but also in terms of it being a...
I'm speechless.
These are numbers similar to or approaching factory loadings for some of the 300 magnums. But it's being achieved with almost half the powder out of an intermediate length, unbelted, and underbore cartridge with drastically superior barrel life and one that was designed to be...
Ahhh. So just like here in Wisconsin. Our northern forest unit is also less densely populated with deer so they limit many of the areas to a buck only permit. Central and southern farmland zones though are packed with deer and you'll often get a doe permit or multiple when you purchase your...
I am really surprised with the results of that PPU brass. I know people say its good but I didn't think it would be this good. I tried their FMJs in one of my surplus rifles and pretty much every shot was a flyer but the Hornady Vintage Match performed excellent.
The CIP limit is more than enough for surplus rifles. If you have a solid Mauser 98 S bore or a WW2 K98 it can easily handle the CIP pressures.
The whole Gewehr 88 commission rifle low pressure .318 bore thing is really unfortunate. Apparently the market was flooded with those when SAAMI...
I treat my venison like beef as well. My primary deer hunting area is a swamp so the fat picks up some of the aquatic plant flavor leading to it needing just a touch more attention to preparation than regular store bought beef or lamb.
Whereabouts is your primary hunting area that it requires...
Another big goal of mine is to become a good wild game cook. I think the better I can cook and utilize meat, the more confidence I'll have in wanting to go out and take multiple deer which is something that's needed around here because they are wildly overpopulated. Also watching videos and...
